No support for uk customers - AVOID.
I have the Atlas2 4K version purchased from Purple Promotions in the UK, £399+£15 postage+vat. There is no support from them for my remote control which has been dreadful since day one, you’ll also be very lucky to get a reply on the phone Geochron USA are reluctant to replace the remote control due to shipping costs and directed me to Aliexpress to get one that is compatible - yes my system is still under warranty and yes I still have the email instructing me to do so. You should also be aware that the system runs very hot and seems dreadfully underpowered, causing it to become overloaded and slow down if you turn on too many layers, furthermore the live video feed from the ISS provided by NASA does not run smoothly if at all even if it is the only layer activated on a totally clear base map. My WiFi is 400mb down and 40mb up even direct Ethernet connection does not improve things. I just want it to work properly but even this is too much to ask, so draw your own conclusions from my experience, I’ve already advised my neighbour to waste his money elsewhere. I will not be renewing my annual subscription for all of the extras and just hope it breaks down sooner rather than later so I can bin it. I’m a UK customer located in Coventry, West Midlands and I am far from happy. UPDATE. Against my better judgement I eventually asked my neighbour to order 2 generic remote controls from Aliexpress as he has an account set up, to use with my Geochron, they arrived very quickly costing less than £9 for both inc. postage and the 2 usb WiFi dongles, they both work perfectly with the Geochron. Purple promotions will sell you a spare/replacement remote control for the Geochron at approximately £25 plus postage plus vat at the last look. It’s also possible you may not need a remote at all soon as Geochron are developing an app for your smartphone to operate the Geochron which maybe released later in 2024.

The OG of geek wall eye candy. Not the cheapest gadget, but reasonable given the obvious effort that went into the product, and quality of the (small) hardware. Emailed support, got response in 24 hrs. Not bad. A very worthy 21st Century incarnation of the original mechanical. If someone today offered me either the $$$ mechanical, or the Atlas2 with a nice TV for my birthday, I’d chose the latter. If you’re dedicating a TV to Geochron, absolutely make sure you’re getting a 4K TV. (not HD (1080), or (gasp) ED 720p) No need for anything expensive. Whatever will look aesthetic on your wall. (think bezel size, protrusions, etc) Mine’s a 4K TCL and looks great. The smallest generally available 4K TVs are 43” diag. Smaller TVs are usually 1080 or 720 because normal muggle TV would not look any better on a small 4K, but you’ll lose a lot of Geochron detail. So don’t) 43” is also the closest in size (a bit larger) than the mechanical Geochron. Lots and lots of endlessly customizable overlays are included free and update live if Internet (Ethernet or WiFi) connected. As of this writing, there are 4 “Premium” (read: pay for) overlays, which require an account/registration/etc. (ISS webcam, Earthquakes, HamRadio, Premium Atmospheric) I am not planning on using these, so no registration required. (FYI ibm streams the ISS webcam for free, of course that isn’t PIP’d onto your Geochron) Setup was a breeze. Firmware update took some time but completed fine. Processor runs warm, but is designed to do so. Designed to just hang from included small HDMI cable, but I ziptied it to back of my metal VESA mount, which now acts as an even bigger heatsink. Do not use double stick tape/pads. Overall highly recommended!

I have attempted at least half a dozen times over the last 6 months to contact them and they have NEVER replied. Email or telephone number, they just don’t seem to care, once you’ve bought their product! If your remote stops working, which mine did after about two hours of use, YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN!

Well so far I'm EXTREMLY Unhappy, The remote will not stay connected to the device, they sent me an email and I did everything listed in it and it still will not stay connected, every time I want to use it I've got to reset the remote, oh and you can forget about reaching anyone on the phone for support, I've tried several times and left messages, no return call. as I stated they did send a troubleshooting email and I did everything and still it will NOT Stay connected. So I guess I'm stuck with a faulty remote and be aware if you want premium layers after spending $500 then get ready to pay for that as well.

I have been looking at Atlas version 1 for over a year. when it came out in this upgraded device I purchased it. I use it every day and works very well. get warm not to hot for a fanless 4 core CPU. I have the upgrade bundles for Ham use and i like it. really good information in real time on the display.

Fun little toy for people out there who like interactive maps! Tutorials on the device are very helpful and clear. Would give 5 stars if they had a mode where you could isolate map views on continent or ad hoc basis!
