I'm not a Dummy.
This is a great reference work for those who want to know more about Holland and the Dutch language. Dutch is a tough language to learn and pronounce, so don't get discouraged. I have spoken the language since birth and of course that helps a great deal. If you have a Dutch friend who can help you with the language that would be the ultimate advantage. God Bless You All. No cd, book is not helpful in learning
Does not come with a CD to listen to pronunciation of words. You only get an ebook audio if you buy the e-book. Not recommended.

Good book for learning basics
In an effort to learn Dutch for an upcoming vacation we are using this book to better understand some words. There is a CD that helps with pronunciation but we wanted to learn more than this book offered so we bought Rosetta Stone which is much more in depth but also considerably more expensive. It all depends on your ultimate goal

People who aren't serious and aren't willing to study will like it :/ It has some interesting sections...
This book covers almost everything. It gives tidbits of information about Dutch culture, it has audio, gives word banks, has many different sections, but it is still lacking. If you intend to really LEARN Dutch this is not the book for you. It gives you a bunch of expressions that you will never remember and, while it is a large book, it is kind of all over the place and not conducive to learning. There are many pages where an entire page is filled up with very spaced out verb conjugations, it gives throws many words at you but does not have enough examples, and the grammar section is not comprehensive at ALL. To put things into perspective, there is another book out there that is over 400 pages on just Dutch Grammar while this book's grammar section is 20 pages. Overall, I think it isn't BAD at anything it does. Everything it does it alright. I admit that this book is fun to read every now and then (particularly for the culture related sections). However, it doesn't push your brain to learn things and to truly understand. I think if you want to push yourself you should do the Assimil course.Ultimately, if you're like most people who just pretend like they want to actually learn Dutch but will just buy a book and never read it, this is perfect for you because you can read small tidbits every now and then, retain none of it, and get some odd satisfaction out of that despite not making any real progress. I would give it a lower score, but it IS fairly comprehensive, despite the fact that you will not even be close to being able to understand a native even if you retain everything in this book... and I feel like Margreet Kwakernaak probably put a lot of work in to this and I want to have at least a tiny bit of respect for the author especially since there are so few books on Dutch.

Simple yet very informative
I needed to get back to the basics of the Dutch language. The book did much more than that. The book is simple to understand and make learning easy. I would recommend the book to anyone wanting to start learning and understanding the Dutch language
