2q: 1.can the level be set to max while playing at normal/high volume?.. 2. Can these be left on over night, or for a long duration? Thank you?

not sure, I do not set to MAX - I have each set slightly above 0db and then I control volume via an Apogee Duet for both music (iTunes e.g.) and playing (guitar, bass, vocals) - very happy with this set up I leave mine on a lot, no issues

if ordered two units does it comes R and L sides?

If you you buy 2 you can put one on the right and one on the left. But they aren't marked r/l. If you look to the left that is the left one. Haha just kidding
