AmazonBasics Rubber Encased Hex Hand Dumbbell Weight

I felt like this was bait & switch. I was under the impression there were 2 items included! Not 1!!!

I read a lot of reviews before taking the risk and buying this. The big question from the reviews is, does it smell so bad that it is not usable? Here is the answer. The dumbells are well packaged in plastic. Yes they smell a little like new tires at the beginning. But the smell dissipates after a few days. I took the plastic off and they don't smell any more. Yes, obviously if you put your nose on top of it, you can smell the rubber. But it's nothing at all like room filling odor. You cannot smell it at all in the room where the dumbells are sitting.And these are high quality, well made dumbbells. I highly recommend them.

Love these dumbbells, but I felt deceived that I'd only bought 1 dumbbell of 3 weights rather than 3 pairs of dumbbells. I feel like they are normally sold in pairs, so for these to be not sold in pairs seems strange. It definitely should be prominent that it's only 1 dumbbell. I placed 1 order, received 1, waited for the other for a day and then realized I was only getting 1 and had to order another 1. That's my only gripe.

Exactly what I wanted. Yes it does smell of rubber at first but, the smell goes away. A lot of reviewers were mad about this? Great product. I use it several times a week no issues!

These weights are great quality and the grip is comfortable. There is an "oil" that is on the rubber which runs onto the grip during shipping. I cleaned off this oil with some greased lightning and then wiped them down again with water and then dried them off. This removed all of the oil and the smell associated with the manufacturing process. Some of the smell lingered for a few days in my workout room, but it went away after about two weeks. I will buy more of these AmazonBasics weights to complete my weight bench set. They are great for the price and much more reasonable than any of the name brand weights.

They are fine as weights - outdoors. The plastic smell was strong when I open them. I searched the web for solutions. Soaked the plastic ends in vinigar. Left them outside for 6 days. They still smell. Brought them inside and in 15 minutes the smell drove me out of exercise room. Now they’re back outside.

Except for not having a name brand on them they are well worth the money and not all sloppily made and are quite uniform.I like them and will buy more.The people that complain about the smell are right in that they do smell but a simple wipe down with some soapy water and some fresh air and your good.I'd rather have to clean a smelly dumbell than to get a rusted up one..Just buy'em you'll be happy you did..

These are excellent weights! I recently purchased 25 lb hand weights (set of two). The weights themselves seem balanced/symmetrical and my two weights seem identical. The weighted ends seem securely attached to the handles. I purchased a similar style of 15 lb hand weights years ago from Target and one of the weighted ends has a little play in how it's attached to the handle. I should've just returned them but there wasn't a huge selection. Regardless, the two weights don't feel symmetrical/identical psychologically I feel like i have to switch hands for different sets. The weights I just purchased, however, are sturdy and well-made. When I'm ready for 30 lb'ers I'll be looking here first!

Wish I knew amazon had these before I whent and got a bunch of generic metal dumbelles...ALMOST true to weight (34.4/35),Rubber is tough,Stippling (grip) is perfect,Handles are slightly bloated,Sold as singles.(Bloated handles are just way more compftorable than the standard straight bar handle)Other reviews noted a STRONG rubber smell. I got two 35’s and didn’t notice anything but a SLIGHT rubber smell that whent away overnight without me needing to do anything about it so, no complaints there.Had these for 3-4 months, lots of use and no signs of wear at all.0.6lb’s off isn’t a big deal at all. Not often do you get weights that are even that close in the first place. I have a branded metal set of 25’s that weigh at 23lb’s up and down that I payed way too much for now that I’m looking at these.Cheapest rubber, bloated handled dumbelles you can find anywhere.5/5 would recommend. I’ll be getting rid of my current dumbbells to be replaced by these one set at a time.For around 0.75$ more a pound than it is of metal- it’s totally worth it. The product is okay but the rubber coating smells horrible and the smell is not going away! This is the worst dumsbells I’ve ever purchaed. I just get a bad headache when I’m training with these dumbells because of the very strong chemical smell of the rubber.

So the weights are great. I saw a lot of reviews about the strong chemical smell so I was ready to give them a good cleaning when they arrived, however mine seem to not smell as bad. I pretty much have to be right up on the weight sniffing to get any kind of smell so it doesn't really bother me.I also saw someone post about rusting on theirs, fortunately I managed to dodge that bullet too. The only thing I notice is that they collect dust pretty easy, which made me realize I need to sweep/vacuum more.I'm slowly building a gym at home here so these are the perfect addition. I would recommend them if you're looking to purchase. I also had an issue with Canada Post "attempting to deliver" when they didn't but I contacted Amazon Customer Service and everything got resolved.

Reading the reviews for this product i was aware that some people complained of the smell the weights gave off. However, i thought how bad could it be? Well it worse than i could have ever imagined. I got them two days ago and i have left them outside while trying to figure out what to do with them, other than sending them back. There is no way i could have them in the house smelling as they do. So, i have washed them with Tide detergent, and have scrubbed them with rubbing alcohol and the smell has diminished somewhat, maybe with another cleaning i will be able to use them.You would think with the complaints of the weights smelling so bad, that Amazon would offer advice on how to rid of it.
