Donna Kooler's 999 Fabulous Cross-Stitch Patterns

Yes, this is an expanded version of "Donna Kooler's 555 etc...." but Donna Kooler's design team never fails to give you bang for your buck in any of their books. They create designs in a variety of needlework styles but Cross-Stitch is my favorite. Her strongest features are brilliant color, unique design, various themes and variety of styles. Her books go from simple and childlike motifs to the Photo-realistic pieces in her "Donna Kooler's Seasons in Cross-Stitch." No matter what your taste her designs are always striking. This book focus' on motifs and suggestions for Cross-Stitch Samplers in a variety of themes and styles. Yet all her motifs are designed so that they may be used as individually as you wish; either singly or in combination with others. It is always up to you. She uses color shading to enhance pieces and in so doing gives dimension and character to each motif no matter how simple. One thing that I always admire in a Donna Kooler design is that, as far as I have seen, she is a pureist. None of her designs seems to vere from specific cross-stitch, with some back stitch highlighting. I may have missed something but I don't think so. This appears to be a Donna Kooler principle of design and her designs are consistantly outstanding to me. The construction may be simple but some,( not those in this book however,) are strictly for the advanced stitcher. Without complicating her work with stitches other than pure cross-stitch, she is capable of producing gorgeous pieces and that means we will be too. This book is no exception. Contents include motifs from song birds to shells, various alphabets, several styles of specific Samplers and the alternative motifs you might want to substitute. There are florals, Home and Hearth, Favorite Things, Hobbies, Borders, Holidays, Animals, etc. Her styles range from the naive to graphic realism,(NOT Photo-realistic though.)The basic style is what is on the cover but between the pages you find the key to how she/they put them together to create masterpieces that will last beyond a lifetime and become treasured family heirlooms. One piece of stitchery will lead to another and you will find people hopeing for one or more of your pieces as gifts to pass down in their families. A 10 star book that I'm only allowed to give a 5 star rating. Yup, this is a definite winner!

Easy to do patterns, cute designs

I really like this book. I've done many of the designs from my sister's book many years ago and therefore thought I should have one of my own. What I like is the variety in the designs to suit any occasion and liking. I've stitched many of these as gifts to friends and they've all loved them. There was a design to suit each of their different personalities. They're simple to do and turn out very pretty. The book is very encouraging to a beginner... makes you want to stitch them. The illustrations and color scheme are also very nice. The only downside I can think of is the binding. The pages may tear and come off with repeated use. This book may not be for a real expert who desires to do elaborate cross stitch such as wall hangings. But, for an ordinary person it's a very good choice.

The book is exactly as advertised. Hundreds of beautiful patterns that can be used to create wall hangings, etc. Very happy.

I got this book by looking at the cover. While the patterns are pretty I doubt if I will use them. Too many half, quarter and back stitches used. For myself I like designs that I can put together in an evening while listening to TV and chatting with my hubby.

This is the best book in all of the tons of cross books I have. I would love to meet this woman. My bad luck I love here and not next door. There would be tons of borrowed sugar moments. This book has everything you could possibly need in patterns and designs. Love ya Gonna. Thanks

I love this book. I have created so many things from these designs. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone interested in cross stitch patterns. I enjoyed it so much that now I look for the author's name when I consider another book purchase. I know that I will get something that I will enjoy creating and just looking through.

Perfect book for anyone who wants to do more cross stitching. Also it refers to DMC floss so that's a HUGE bonus. Great projects small to bigger.

Easy patterns to follow. Great for small projects like occasional cards. I love the book binding with rings. The pages are easily turned and lay perfectly flat when opened.
