Excellent
Weaving together men and women spiritual stories and writings across time and continents is just masterful. This book helped lift my spirit in this hard time, and gave me inspiration and strength.

The Earth is Sacred; People are sacred...That's it.
I've read all of Newell's books. I'm leading a book study on this one. Being a long time Animist I greatly appreciate the message which we all need to take seriously. Newell examines 9 persons of various time periods, all of Celtic heritage, who emphasized aspects of this theme in their writings. What Newell lacks is any practical application. He talks a lot about awareness yes, but once aware, what does a practice/lifestyle/spirituality look like that takes this theme seriously? He never says. Nor does he give any suggestions for developing this "awareness". This is my main criticism of his works. I give it 4 stars because I want people to know his message but withheld 1 star for this serious shortcoming.

profoundly relevant
Beautifully written reflections on 9 great souls and their love of earth and humanity. Any religion that does not revere nature and life, is out of touch with God.

Eloquent Vision from the Incredible John Philip Newell
In an age of fragmentation, distraction, and transition, John Philip Newell offers a way forward that is simultaneously wise and soulful. THE GREAT SEARCH is an illuminating and important book I’ll personally be returning to again and again — and also a book I’ll be giving to other seekers who long for healing for earth as well as an authentic and historically grounded spirituality. The chapters on Berry, Julian of Norwich, and Etty Hillesum are standouts.

Much needed perspective on earth and religion
Well written call to action.

For anyone who calls themselves "spiritual though not religious."
This book presents the ideas of several spiritually serious thinkers through the ages as they have transitioned from a traditional patriarchal religion to a spirituality confirming the sacredness of nature.
