Relive the Magic
I played each of the main Dragon Quest games since the release of the original Dragon Warrior, and I've enjoyed each one. I was curious to try this one given the overall refresh of gameplay, graphics, and story.Overall I'm impressed.Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake provides an opportunity to revisit the iconic Dragon Quest III but in a modern and refreshing manner. The gameplay is smooth and fun, yet retains the subtle quirkiness of the original, such as character movements. The game is smooth, but not overly so, and therefore is reminiscent of an old school RPG.I'm only a couple hours in, but this is a great game which I look forward to playing through to completion.Besides the iconic nature of the Dragon Quest series and the general refresh, there are a number of great features.First is the frequent autosave - this allows you to play the game in smaller increments if desired, without seeking out a designated save point. Second, the customization at the beginning is also nice - this allows you to select among three difficulty levels, the most difficult, Draconian feels reminiscent of the difficulty of old school RPGs which is a great touch and offers a fresh challenge for those revisiting Dragon Quest III. Even better, this may be changed at any point throughout the adventure. Lastly, I really like the bite-sized tutorials sprinkled throughout the adventure. These are instructive, serve as useful reminders, and are seamlessly integrated within the main quest.Overall Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic experience for existing fans of the franchise, but is also a great jumping on point for those new to the series. It incorporates fresh features while remaining true to the original.Highly recommended.

A definitive Remake for all ages to enjoy!
From the visuals and beautiful crafted art that pays respect to the original, to the quality of life in gameplay mechanics to making the experience more convenient. A new yet familiar adventure awaits!A New Character Class, additional bosses, monsters and enemies that were exclusive to the Game Boy and Super Famicom versions now mixed into this remake, plus new content additions help to shake up combat. This expands to details in combat to make it faster and to items and spells that have been rework and/or new to further the experience. To those who love turn base JRPGs and what to learn about why certain franchises are praised, this is a definite one to check out not just for the history lesson but for the simple yet fun factor as well.New System changes include:- You Now Save in Churches- Change the Difficulty Level- Story Progress and Objectives Bars- Added "Rest" Option to Inns- Equip Up to Two Accessories- Some Personalities Have Different Names- Customization For Characters is Available- Help Feature Available in Adventure LogsFrom new side content, more side stories and scenes to give the story a more larger context view of events. This helps in only adding to scenes while respecting the original vision in narrative. This is definitely a definitive version worth experiencing.Square Enix and Artdink have done a beautiful job in creating a modernized version for first time players while respecting and adding to the past. Which by definition, is what a remake should strive for.

Fantastic HD 2D Remake of a JRPG Classic
I had the remake of this game on the Game Boy Color back in 2001. This is a wonderful HD 2D remake of a classic JRPG. The new HD 2D visuals are bright, clean and crisp looking character and enemy models.Even with the game not altering the old school JRPG combat and story, the game is still a joy to to play. Control is tight, menu system is clean and easy to navigate. Game can be a little grind heavy, but that was expected since it is based off the original NES/Famicom Dragon Quest/Warrior III game.If you love the the old school style Dragon Warrior games and old school JRPGs in general, I would highly recommend picking this game up and playing it.

One of the best game remakes ever.
I remember the first one and this one follows quite well. All the add on content we well placed and very good. The game looks great and after 120 hours I am still enjoying it. So glad to get this game and be able to play it again after so many years.

Nostalgia
This is my favorite game of the series, the one that got me into Dragon Quest, and I started on GBC. Playing this is so nostalgic, even though I literally still play the GBC version, and seeing how it’s remade is absolutely beautiful. I love being able to personalize your party members more, I love the details of everything, and I love the audio of the characters that speak to you. The Monster Wrangler class is fun, that’s one I’m still exploring, and it’s also fun to recruit monsters, a la DQVI (except to the menagerie and not to your party). I recommend this game (and series) to everyone I meet because it brings me so much joy.

Another side quest?
The game is fun. Love the art style and music. Sometimes you can just sit back and enjoy the orchestra. Never played the original game but this one is a blast.

Awesome version of a great game!
A very good version of my favorite DQ entry!Pros: Graphics, music, extras (sparkly spots, updated monster arena, new items, new bosses (!), new Monster Wrangler class).Cons: Difficulty modes feel very unbalanced- Easy is too easy and you’re unable to die at all, Hard mode is super sloggy and annoying. You can swap between difficulty modes at any time which can lead up a lot of cheese the game moments. You now also refill HP and MP when you level up too, which though might sound good it actually robs the game of a lot of difficulty and makes some items like Prayer Rings and elixirs feel not quite as great as they should be. Monster Wrangler is great but gets really OP in the end. They’re releasing 2D HD versions of the first two Dragon Quest games in 2025, and I can’t wait to snap those up too. I’m really curious if they’re going to keep the 2nd game as difficult as it used to be on the NES (I kind of hope that they do). This remake though is totally worth the $60 price tag IMO.
