AP U.S. Government and Politics Premium, 2025: Prep Book with 6 Practice Tests + Comprehensive Review + Online Practice (Barron's AP Prep)

My son took the class online and having this guide to use to study was very helpful. Well organized, succinct, and easy to understand.

The AP U.S. Government and Politics book has been recommended by my son’s teacher. It has a diagnostic test that can determine whether he is ready for the AP exam or not. I am confident that he will get a good grade at A.P. U.S. Government and Politics exam at the beginning of May.

I bought this book for my son to prepare for his first AP exam. He did not use it much as they had access to practice exams from the College Board directly. I was flipping through it and happened to see a mistake on page 190. In the section on Monetary Policy it reads, "In 2022, the Fed started raising the Prime Interest rate to prevent a recession..." First of all, the Fed does not control the Prime rate - that is the rate commercial banks often charge highly qualified customer or benchmark their rates to. Second of all, if you want to prevent a recession you don't raise rates you LOWER them. Fundamentally, inexcusably, wrong information.Fast forward a few weeks later and the weekend before the AP exam my kid logs into Barron's website to take an online test. He has performed well in his class and on all the College Board practice exams, but the Barron's test is making him crazy. So I started reading over his shoulder and was shocked that question, particularly about economics were wrong or misleading. For one question, no answers looked correct as only one that fit at all confused Classical and Keynesian economic theory. Sure enough, in the explanation, the test confused the two and stated that Keynesian economic theory believe in long-run self-correcting nature of the market and Classical advocating for short-term government intervention. Most parts about the structure of the government were ok, but questions about the political parties was really weird and miscategorized. And even though this was the "updated" 2025 version it asked one question as if Roe v Wade had not been overturned.So not only was this book not needed as we found the materials on the College Board website available for free to be sufficient, this book has genuinely wrong information! If you are using this to study for the test without taking the class be very careful what you learn here, especially about economics. And worst, using the practice test stripped my kid of confidence as it caused him to question material he knew and understood due to the poorly worded and inaccurate questions and applications. We have a lot more AP in our future, but definitely NO MORE BARRONS!
