Life Is Strange: Double Exposure (PS5)

Solid
Came in one piece that’s always a win. The game I would say for the most part is faithful to the ones before and personally I am biased because Max is one of my favorite characters in LIS. Now is it as good as some of the ones before? No. But I would say it is still entertaining and does have elements that make it worth buying. Such as the mew new reality system I find personally to be a fresh take on Max’s powers (I believe there have been variations of her powers in the past in the comics). The story is solid and I will say had some twist I did not expect. Overall the game for me is 8.8/10. I don’t want to say too much because of spoilers.

I liked this game
I don't think we'll get more LiS games after this, but I liked this adventure. LiS 2 wasn't bad and I pretend LiS: True Colors don't exist, but Double Exposure was a great return to the roots of the series. It's a shame it divided the community and I don't think the series will have future from this point. I enjoyed to play as Max again, so I'm happy with this game in my collection.

Best of the Series
By far, the best game in the series. This game follows Max, as an adult who has left Arcadia Bay, and let go of her powers.Only to find herself with new powers to switch between realities at all. This surpassed the first game for me, and the ending was surprising in not just that they didn’t go for the cliche cheap ending that they foreshadow, but they also made a very unique decision in how they wrapped up everyone’s view or memory of everything that happened. The only element that I disliked, is how hard they push you at Amanda, romantically. Almost every character seems to be bisexual. I made the decision to reject Amanda every time, but they seem almost reluctant to pair you with the male choice.Other than that, 5 stars.

The sequel that should have been made years ago
Please be aware: multiple spoilers. Don’t read if you don’t want to know what happens. First, as a preamble, let me advise the reader that I played this game all the way through before venturing to review it, unlike others. It was a welcome addition to the LIS franchise; actually, the game I’ve been waiting for since the original. These are story-based games, and so I found LIS 2 and LIS true colors terribly disappointing, because the narratives were bad. I can honestly say that no story-based game has been as good as the original life is strange, in my opinion, though it’s been years since that came out. This game, which is a proper sequel, comes closer than any other that I have played, yet it has its flaws. The positives, which are many: fantastic sound track, many pop culture references, improved graphics, amazing art. An intellectual environment that I don’t believe has ever been equaled in a video game. Multiple decisions that profoundly alter how the story plays out. I would say fantastic, utterly fantastic, just what fans have been craving for years, but for the negatives: a story that is simply too convoluted to invest in, and what is much more important, a lack of heart. The original game featuring max had Kate, Victoria, and Warren, among others, whose backstories were practically guaranteed to make even the hard core gamer tear up. There is nothing similar here. We have a romance between max and Amanda which is kind of cute, but that’s about all. I never felt particularly friendly towards safi. Lastly, and admittedly not as important, the game’s end is not satisfying. It is obvious that whoever wrote it wasn’t done, and if they were made to feel done, they knew in their hearts it was not so. I enjoyed playing this game immensely, but it still needs a lot of work to make it as culturally significant as the first Life is Strange. Worth your money? Definitely. Disappointing? I’m afraid so.

Great game!
Fantastic game! I played the OG life is strange so it was great to see max as an adult! It would be difficult to understand the story if you hadn't played the original game. Just my opinion

Said reluctantly, a shell of Max's original adventure :(
I'm so torn writing this review. I love the previous Life is Strange titles (#1, Before the Storm, True Colors), including all their cringy awkwardness at times. That's part of their charm. Returning to Max's story was a treat that I greatly looked forward to. I loved the promise of seeing where her power would go next. I also firmly believe in supporting small studios, indie stories, and representation in gaming, ESPECIALLY with the review bombing trends of 'woke' titles. So it pains to rank this game 3 / 5. I wanted to love it so much.I'm a writing nerd. Story development, character development, etc. I'm even fine with repetitive or clunky gameplay if the story more than compensates. I also feel when you enter the Life is Strange world, your expectation is somewhere along that line. But this story was not enough. These characters were not enough. The awkwardness in parts was dialed to a new level where it felt like the characters were still trapped in high school and not capable of evolving beyond it. Similar themes were re-tread (unreliable and devious adults / teachers!) from past games. The narrative jumps felt drastic. I felt like not much happened at all over the course of the title, but the drama was cranked up intensely from conversation to conversation. It felt forced. I walked away without any of the lingering poignancy of the first game. No big moral problems to stew on, or truly dark and shocking twists. The vibes were there, the graphics were an improvement, and I didn't mind the new variation on time travel, but it felt like a shell of a Life is Strange game.3 stars still because games are impossible to make and I'm glad it exists rather than not at all. There were still moments I enjoyed. But if I'm honest, it was 1 out of 5 in how it met the high expectations I had going in.
