Hotel Portofino Season 3 DVD

I have seen all episodes! Fabulous, complex characters. The scenery is exquisite!

What a fun series in a gorgeous location! We had so many laughs about the plot of this. The actors are great.

Hotel Portofino does not have the charm or wholesomeness of other PBS series like The Durrells or All Things Great and Small, but it is still enjoyable, nonetheless. I particularly enjoy the scenery, vintage costumes and set designs. Some characters, like the hotel staff are charming and interesting but some of the main characters (and actors) I find less captivating. The subject matter gets heavier in the 2nd/3rd seasons, mostly a result of historical events at the time. While the birth/rise of fascism in Italy in the 1920's is important subject matter, it doesn't add up to a lighter, wholesome series some PBS viewers may be seeking.

LOVED season 1. Season 2 was ok. Season 3 was HORRIBLE! All about violence, betrayal, murder, etc. with very little about the beautiful hotel and the amazing cast. What a waste of time.

It is very classy. The locations are beautiful and the story becomes more and more exciting.

The third season of Hotel Portofino has an unusually high number of twists and turns to the various plots comprising the story. The 1929 US stock market crash is felt around the world as indicated by the family and guests at Hotel Portofino. The family of the hotel ownership is definitely affected adversely by the stock market crash, and leads to much conniving to try to stay financially afloat. A number of unexpected developments in the plot affect the various members of the family in surprising ways, and in some cases prove delightful, and in others, tragic; but it is a gripping drama from start to finish, and viewers will not be disappointed, but on the edge of their seats, waiting for the fourth season.
