Growing pains come along with chasing the dream
Thorliff is making his own dreams come true by attending college, St. Olaf, in distant Northfield, Minnesota. Leaving his family, friends, and sweet heart, Anji, was harder than he anticipated. To save money, room and board was offered him if he help with the town paper on his free time. The owner of the paper, and his wife and daughter Elizabeth, become his family. While he writes as promised, to Anji, he does not receive letters in return. Like most college Freshmen, it is hard to reconcile with the fact that life goes on without him back in Blessing, ND. While Elizabeth studies to become a doctor, Thorliff vegans to wonder if he made a mistake leaving Anji behind...if she would only write back ... Growing up is not gain free, and achieving one's dreams isn't supposed to be easy....

Unfinished
I understand L. Snelling is telling this wonderful tale in great detail,,,,and her story telling skills are superb, but I protest the high price of reading this second part of the tale that leaves one hanging as much as did the first book in this series! I have never spent this much on an e-book, and do not look forward to the price of the third either. It is a great thing the saga continues about this wonderful family, but his story could have been told in one book, and perhaps Andrews story in volume 2, then on to Montana and more of Baptist and Manda in the third book,,,,,,not three whole books to tell Thorliff’s story.

Great series
The continuing of a wonderful series, from Red River to Return to Red River. Was so gad that the Red River series continued with the characters in this Return to Red River. Oh my, I wanted so to find out how their lives turned out. So nice to have something to relax with in the evenings. Thank you Laura Snelling for being such a great writer.

Believable, Enjoyable, and Challenging!
I love the Red River Books and I especially love the way Snelling writes with immense depth and faith. Her characters go through real trials and share real life with the reader in the way that only excellent fiction can do in our minds. I hightly recommend any and all books in Snelling's Red River or Blessing books. I am so grateful that she has continued the series because I have needed the lessons and the inspiration these books provide as I go through my own trials. I've read this book at least twice and hope to read it again soon. I recommend it to family and friends and anyone who enjoys mixing history with their fiction to better understand the lives of those who came before us.

Life in the South Dakota Territory
I loved the story! It kept you in it all the way through! And it took some turns that were not expected at all! It also gave ways God helps us deal with life and events that were not the best for us to understand what God wanted for us!, it was an exultant book!,

Forgiveness
This is a good story but the message about needing to forgive others who may have hurt you inadvertently and even if they don’t forgive you it is so important to forgive them as bitterness and resentment just hurt. The story of the Bjorkland family continues and the town of Blessing expands and new characters emerge and others fade away but this is a wonderful saga and a blessing to read.

Engaging
Another interesting book of historical fiction by this author, in her series about an immigrant family. Her style of writing is easy to follow, interesting, inspiring, and the characters are engaging.

Boring...
Being of Norwegian descent, I was immediately interested in this series. This series is supposed to depict the lives of the Norwegian settlers, but OMG, it is such a boring read!!! I had to force myself through the first series, but only because I spent good money buying it. It didn't captivate my attention, nor was I engrossed in the characters and their relationships. Lauraine Snelling just isn't my style of writing.
