F4-212 2G- A great little device and better than expected!
I’ve only been using this for 2 days but felt I should write a review, I think some of the reviews and general disapproval online of TOS 5 are a little unfair - I’ve not set up a NAS before and am still learning, but have so far found general secure set up do able especially with online info and YouTube guides, and have managed to set up Plex and local PlexAmp for streaming to an Airplay 2 wireless speaker. I setup mine is set up as TRAID with a Samsung 870 2TB SSD, system is silent (SSD helps this), is snappy, and files transfer quickly, it also retrieves files quickly and seems very stable. Only issue I have found is difficulty installing the latest Plex server app, and write permissions for iOS files app (read works perfectly though) but I’m sure that’s more user error than system error. I was torn between the F4-212 2G and Synology ds224+, I read a lot about the DSM software being far superior to TOS but was undecided as I didn’t want to spend £400+ on first NAS with storage; this was a steal with Black Friday discount and prime, plus I actually prefer the style of the Terramaster. I’m not disappointed at all and am very pleased with my choice, things aren’t always particularly clear in TOS but as long as you take your time and seek guidance online before you start loading the system with your files it seems as though this system will serve one well for home usage.

Struggling to set this up
Almost certainly due to user error, but I wanted to have my music and pictures available on my network. I am struggling to get it to work especially with my computer firewall.

Does the job
A bit slow to shift about 6 terabytes of files from one NAS to this one. Not got the first terabyte shifted yet as it periodically falls off the network or if it doesn’t, tha Synology 2 disk device does. This gets tedious after a couple of days. Easy enough to set up, though I’d prefer more than a scrap of paper with a QR code that leads to a non-existent web page. Found it eventually though and off it went. About an hour later it was usable. The next test is when two 8TB drives arrive and then I’ll see how long it’s going to take to add the pair of them to replace two of the current 4TB drives. The 8 TB drives will need adding one at a time with the RAID being expanded. This was a multi-day process on the Synology device. I’ll be interested to see just how long it’ll take on this one.
