I listened to the audiobook version and I URGE EVERYONE to do the same. The narrator is incredible. Perfect inflection, tone and pacing. Amazing use of voice to portray characters and emotion. All aided, of course, by an incredible story.The first 50% of the book is a very slow build up. But suddenly...shizz gets scary. And I mean I was on the edge of my bed, desperately sleep-deprived, knowing I had a long work day ahead but UNABLE to stop listening.The writer is awesomely skilled at dropping clues that only make sense right at the height of drama. The descriptions are clear and evocative, the tension builds and builds in such subtle and clever ways. The author is clearly a fan of ghost-lore in general and, somehow, it felt deeply respectful to people who claim to be spirit mediums. The whole story took “ghost” and made cliches feel fresh. The stakes just kept on rising.I think I’ve found a new favourite author to follow and envy and admire. AND THE NARRATOR <3 I think I could listen to ANYTHING she narrates.

I love a good read and a book that makes me want to sit down and read and this one from Darcy did not disappoint!!!! I’m shocked after reading one review as I felt this was a brilliant read!! I’m now looking for more books by Darcy. I recommend this book big time!!!!

Honesty I was amazed.Reading only one of Coates' books prior, I decided to start spooky season with a light paranormal like with the first book I read.I was so wrong.It gave me chills I couldn't shake, the urge to check over my shoulder. The ambience and setting, the mystery and the character's kept me hooked.Don't even get me started on the last third of the story, the plot twists, the holy f*** moments gave it all a satisfying ending that makes me want to see more of these characters in more hauntings with the same creep factor this gave me.

Just loved this book and was gripped by the plot - as always well written and thoroughly enjoyable - Darcy is a gem of an author and I have read and enjoyed all her books and this one did not disappoint

I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves a good old fashioned ghost story. It keeps you riveted and is a great page turner with a few unusual twists along the way which result in an explosive climax. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I loved this story until three-quarters of the way through; it was such a great read but the ending only led to a sense of disbelief and disappointment. Such a shame as the rest of it was great.

Recommended completely easy reading and didn't complicate the story buy going overboard on the descriptions of the caricktors keep you wanting to read more .Hope you will enjoy it as much as I did .

Having read Ashburn house by Darcy Coates i was recommended this by a family member. It's a real page turner and a very good read - I would highly recommend this book.
