Scandalous (Sinners of Saint, 3)

Amazing!!
I am an unapologetic cover whore. Always have been. Always will be. I picked up Sparrow by L.J. Shen last year because of that fact, and after I finished reading it, I’d never been so thankful for my whorish ways! From the moment I delved into that book, I knew I had found something special…someone special. Alphas and @ssholes are my favorite kinds of heroes, and it was obvious to me that I had met their master. Making a true @sshole hero that you can fall in love with can’t be an easy feat, but Leigh does it every. single. time. Scandalous was no different!Trent Rexroth, a.k.a. The Mute, loves his daughter Luna more than life itself, and that’s why it kills him that he can’t reach her. He doesn’t grace many people with his words, but he freely gives them all to her and never receives any in return. Being deprived of the kind of father/daughter communication most people take for granted guts him completely. Edie Van Der Zee lives in a mansion, but her life is anything but luxurious. She spends her days taking care of her mentally ill mother and trying to collect as much money as she can in any way possible. She needs money desperately despite her insanely rich parents, because at the age of 18, she is helping to take care of someone else, and that someone else is not living in her home and is at the mercy of her father’s whims. Edie’s father, Jordan Van De Zee, is a cruel man that is anything but a good husband and father. He barely acknowledges Edie unless he wants something, and she should have known he wanted something when he forced her to come work for him. Using the only leverage he has over her that would make her do absolutely anything, he drops the bomb on Edie that he expects her to steal from Trent for him.To say that Trent Rexroth and Jordan Van Der Zee don’t get along would be an understatement, so when Jordan brings Edie to work and demands that she be allowed a job, Trent’s first reaction is to fight him on it…that is until he sees her with Luna. Because Trent spends a huge chunk of his time at the office, Luna’s therapist suggested that he take her to work with him sometimes. Edie happens to run into her and her nanny in the breakroom which is where he sees the thing that changes his mind about Edie’s employment completely. Somehow she manages to have Luna smiling and engaging in a way that he only dreamed of. He knows right then and there that he can’t let her go.Something else draws Trent to Edie though, and it drives him crazy. They don’t get along in any way. Every verbal exchange they have becomes a sparring match, but underneath it all is a burning desire that neither of them can extinguish. In fact, over time it becomes increasingly apparent that they will inevitably combust.Scandalous is well written, sexy, heartbreaking and heartwarming. It’s a book that I wanted to go on forever, because aside from how phenomenal of a story it is, the reality that Trent was the last hothole I would read about broke my heart. This series will go down as one of my favorites of all time. I adore it, and it solidified L. J. Shen’s spot in my heart forever. It is no secret that she has become my favorite author. I fangirl for her like a teenager over their favorite boy band, and I will never be ashamed of it. Amazing talent like hers is rare, and the fact that it comes in the form of an equally amazing human being is icing on the cake. There were two little words in this book that caused tears to unexpectedly burst from eyes, and once you read it maybe you will know what I’m talking about. Of course, there is a chance you won’t, but I can guarantee you that you WILL be touched by something. This is a book about people that have never had an easy time in this world, but they survive and they thrive, and it’s an incredibly beautiful thing to witness. If you haven’t read this one yet, drop everything else you’re doing and one-click it now! If you haven’t started this series yet, rectify that immediately! The Sinners of Saint series is one that no romance fan should miss!

Finally Trent's story!
Ever since Vicious released, I've been in love with the Sinners of Saint Series by L.J. Shen, and each of the hothole's has captured my heart in a different way, so when it was time for Trent's book I was excited to see what ride he was going to take us on.Trent has always been the quiet one in the group, the sort of outcast. If you've read the series, you know his backstory, but don't worry, you can definitely read this book without having read the others, but why would you want too? This series is AMAZING! A single dad, a rags to riches story, and a complete jerk, just like the rest of his friends. With him being the only of the four who actually truly cares about the company, but the one their new business partner wants out, his life is a mess, and his daughter who is a mute, he's truly trying to make his life work. When Edie walks into his life he hates her, because she's Jordan's daughter, she's young, and she gets on his last nerve. But there's something about her that Luna clings to, and Trent can't deny.Edie despises her father, but she needs him to keep the only thing in life she cares about. She hates the rich, even though she's one of them. She's young, but she's not reckless. I loved Edie Van Der Zee! This girl may be young, but she definitely had her crap together, and I adored her character. The way she cared for Theo, who most of the book we didn't know who or what Theo was, the way she continued to care for her mother, and the way she was torn about what to do with Trent, made me love her character so much. When Jordan (her dad) puts her in a horrible situation I wanted to kill him! I knew this little thief and the mute were going to have an interesting and fun time together. These two say they hate each other, and what they have is definitely an interesting relationship, but no one can deny the bond that Edie has with Luna, and the chemistry that Edie and Trent have is undeniable, which makes for one heck of a story. So many secrets, and lies are going on in this story, but throughout it, we learn how deep these two characters really are and it makes you fall even further in love with both of them. We learn so much about both of them, and why they are the way they are. You want to hate Trent, you want to scream at Edie for continuing to follow Jordan's orders, but throughout it all you just keep rooting for the two of them to make it work and get a HEA.Scandalous by L.J. Shen is definitely one wild ride with so many twists and turns, and your head will spin, the ride to a HEA for these two is definitely full of ups and downs and twists and turns and you will definitely wonder if they will ever truly make it work, but you'll just need to read this amazing and gripping story to find out. Trent may not be as much of a hothole as the rest of them, but he will find a way into your heart with his jerk ways, trust me!

LOVED IT

Realmente o Trent e a Edir me conquistaram. Foi uma grata surpresa, porque eu não imaginei que o livro seria tão bom.

The Tide brought Edie and Trent together in the end!
Scandalous was a heartbreakingly epic love story, about finding love in the most unexpected of places. It was everything I have come to expect from LJ’s writing, the hot alpha hero and the strong and independent heroine who have a turbulent journey to their HEA. But this one was different to the previous books in the series because it had more layers to the story, and as each piece of the puzzle falls into place, you find yourself rooting for Trent and Edie even more.Trent Rexroth is the epitome of the strong and silent type. Always dealt a bad hand, he has a cruel and ruthless side, but does it in such a calm way, making his prey squirm under his scrutiny. His silence speaks louder than anything he ever could say, he gives off such power and dominance without even opening his mouth. But that doesn’t mean he always has control, he has the weight of his world on his shoulders juggling his personal, professional life and his new obsession, Edie Van de Zee.Edie, the eighteen-year-old daughter of the FHH business partner Jordan, wants nothing to do with the world of FHH and wealth. She is determined to find her own way in life, so when she is forced to work for FHH, she desperately wants out. The attraction she feels to Trent is strong, but she knows to steer clear of him. But when her father blackmails her into spying on Trent, she reluctantly agrees because the alternative is not an option. She hates that she has been put in this position, especially as she doesn’t know what her father’s vendetta against Trent is, even more so as she gets closer to Trent and his daughter Luna. But when secrets are revealed, and Trent’s past comes back to haunt him, will they ever be able to give their relationship a real shot, or were they doomed from the offset?Trent has flaws, who out of LJ’s heroes doesn’t, but LJ’s ability to make them endearing and lovable is one that not many authors have managed. By the end of every book in the SoS series, I have forgiven and understood their actions, just the same as their heroines. And this is the same for Trent, mostly through Luna and how he finally opens his heart to another woman, Edie. He makes the ultimate sacrifice at the end, he puts a level of trust in her that he never has for anyone else, and even when he thinks she’s broken it, he still fights for her. Dean is still my favourite HotHole, but Trent with his behaviour with Luna, how he would do anything for the ones he loves, and how he acted at the end of Scandalous has made him a close second, and in my eyes the most honourable of the group.Edie, even though she is only eighteen, she is so mature, and she too has so much pressure riding on her own shoulders. Her fiercely protective nature for everyone important to her, which spreads to Luna, makes her the most compassionate of the heroines in this series. She was mature and acted in ways which I was impressed with for her age. She has to carry out actions which even though she knows are wrong and she harbours guilt for, she is so desperate to provide for those who are relying on her, she is willing to do anything. She is so strong, having so many difficult aspects in her life, but Trent allows her to be herself and share the burden, allowing her at times to act her age.Edie and Trent had sexual tension in spades, which was only intensified by the forbidden aspect of their relationship. They both felt guilt for the attraction between them, but ultimately it won out and when they gave in, it was explosive, slowly turning into love. But Scandalous had another layer of intensity, with the storyline of Jordan and the secrets surrounding his past, forcing them to realise their feelings for one another, as well as face other forces trying to prevent them from a future. The twists and turns were unexpected, and I was hooked to see how the plot would unravel. I think in terms of storyline, this has been my favourite book so far because of the extra depth of character development and how invested you become in the whole world.Reading Scandalous of the second time, it has proven to me once again that Edie and Trent are the most selfless couple of the SoS series. I loved the final scene, giving an insight into their future. The tide brought them together in the end.
