One of the best books for the Beginner to learn techniques
I started water painting and it is really, really hard to do well. Part of it is that I did not know who to work with the paints. This book takes you through all the different things you can do with watercolour paints and how to use them. They also have a section on paints and brushes so that you do not waste your money. But, I think in the paint section they should have included M. Graham & Co. Watercolor paints, as they are fantastic and you can get them in 1/2 oz tubes, 5 for around $50! He also has a set o primary colors and a few others that I would recommend. But, I have to agree that Daniel Smith, for me is the best.SIDE NOTE AND A GREAT FIND!!!Benjabelle Mini Brush Tree:I know these are made for make up brushes, but the key word here is" brushes". As Artists we need to keep anddry our brushes tip down, especially watercolour brushes as a size 12 in Pure Kolinsky Sablewill cost you up to $400 retail and around $300 on sale!! When water gets into the brushes' ferrule, it degrades the brush andthe brush also CANNOT be left with the tip down or standing in water. This is the perfect solution. A Must have!!! And it comes in different sizes and colours. I have mine assembled and then I mounted each one on a block of styrofoam to make it even taller. Just cut in a cross and used glue to keep it there. I will decorate the styrofoam to make look better LOLOther books that would help you learn even if you are an intermediate painter is:For any Artist:Color Mixing Bible, by Ian Sidaway_________________________"COLOR WORKS, the Crafters Guide to Color" by Deb MenzFOR ANYONE who wants to know about COLOR THEORY this text breaks it down so that ANYONE can understand this complexsubject. I learnt more about color theory in this book than all others put together because I now "Understand" the concept. While this book is for the textile artist, ALL artists should get it and it also has cut outs to use when choosing yourcolour palette whether it be for Fashion Design or Art.________________________________For Watercolour:Water Colour in motion, O'ConnorPainting Watercolour that dance with light, KincaidPainting flowers with Impact in Watercolour, CollinsJean Haine's Atmosphere WatercoloursWatercolour from the Heart, NechisHow to Paint Watercolor Flowers, Create Your Own in 6 Easy Steps, Robin Berry for Reader's DigestVibrant Flowers in Watercolour by Soon Y. Buy the original; Avoid the Echo Point edition
This book is excellent if you seek out the original 1995 edition. The more recent Echo Point reprint, however, is a poor reproduction. The photographs are horribly blown out, the colors are dull and hard to distinguish between similar hues, the font is fatiguing to the eye, and the paper feels cheap to the touch. It’s almost as if they photocopied the original and printed it out on 8 1/2x11 paper using an inkjet printer. When I received the reprint, I was so disappointed, I ordered a copy of the original to compare, as I had been told this book was excellent. Indeed the differences in quality were astounding. I returned the reprint immediately and kept the original edition to enjoy. My photograph doesn’t do it justice, but you can see the color wheel in the original book (left) compared with the reprint (right.) It’s almost impossible to separate reds and oranges in the reprinted edition.

HIghly recommended for beginners and advanced artists
I got this for my wife, who is taking up watercolor. I did some research online and this book came highly recommended. Now that I have it, I can see why. The book is designed to help beginning artists, as well as serve as a reference. It starts with the basics(brushes, colors, equipment), and moves on to techniques and style. I was thoroughly impressed, and my wife loved it.EDIT: After looking through this book some more, I am even more impressed. It could easily be used as a textbook for a university-level art class, there is a TON of material here. You could use this one book for a lifetime of painting.

The Best watercolor book out there...ever!
My all time favorite watercolorbook written by my instructor of 20+ years. No other book comes even close in comparison for indepth adult information if you seriously want to pursue the art of watercolor. Every caption is chocked full of valuable information. My copies are marked up and dog eared. Do the simplest exercises first. Don't rush to full color until you understand the basic usage of warm and cool colors. Few books out there will give you this solid foundation. No gimmicks or tricks. Just lots of practice practice practice of the scales and you'll surely 'Get it' in time.

The Watercolor Book: materials and techniques for Today's Artist
This book was recommended to me by an accomplished artist. That is the reason I ordered it, for I had never seen or read about this book. This book has very informative information with illustrated examples to follow and practice. I found it easy to read and understand with information vital to becoming an artists and for true artist to keep learning. All of the same things in most books are covered and then some. I highly recommend this book.

Great Reference
I found this book to provide the most extensive review of watercolor materials and color theory in any watercolor instruction book of the twenty plus I have read to date. There is a thoughtful summary of much data in this book. Good reading by the artist that wants to progress past the beginning phases of a watercolor journey. At a minimum it will make you aware of how much there is to learn.

The perfect book for the beginner
This book is clear, crisp and vivid just like the watercolors in it. It explains the basics of painting in a water based medium in the best way possible, in my opinion. While a quick browse through the internet could provide you with more information about any specific topic, this all in one book could be the only book you will ever need on the subject. Aside watercolor specific techniques, it provides also with a quick breakthrough of composition and drawing. So, even if you're just starting out this will be a good place to start.

Basic
The book is very basic and only deals with very simple techniques. The examples are not very inspired.
