KYOCERA CSN-202-RD Adjustable Ceramic Slicer with Hand protector - Red

This is by far the best Mandolins out there. It is handheld, super sharp and just superb. We even managed to break one already but were so impressed with it regardless that we went and got the OXO one but didn't like it as much so ended up getting another one of these Kyocera ones. It is fast and very simple to use. I do find the hand protector thing a bit fiddly to use so don't use that bit so much...to the detriment of one of my fingers! But even with this as an issue, I still can't recommend it enough. In fact, going to be getting it for my Father in Law who has a wrist problem at the moment. I have used this to chop stuff for salads, to blanch super thin onions, it is a wonder on fennel...it really makes you add more stuff to salads because it cuts the chopping times that it doesn't feel like such a chore to create lots of dishes. The adjustable width for chopping is fantastic too. So all in all, an excellent buy.

Previously had a mandolin 'system' but it was too cumbersome, this however easily fits stacked away. The blade is predictably sharp (thus an obligatory mention to mind your fingers, and better yet buy cut-resistant gloves.) The purchase was in part a curiosity thing, however I have no regrets and have easily incorporated it into my kitchen. For most things, as expected I use the chef knife, however the mandolin comes in handy for repetative slicing of veg (e.g. potatoes), fruit (especially for a G&T), and even chorizo. The tool is lightweight, comes with a plastic cutting guard to hold the fruit or veg. I find that handy, but iinevitably you'll put it aside in favour of just using your hands for speed and dexterity...then you'll lose concentration and forget just how efficient the device is...that's where the cut-proof gloves come in handy. There are 4 levels of cut thickness, in my experience the 3rd and 4th (largest) are the only real usable ones. However, there is probably some fruit or vegetable that the thinnest cuts were crafted for, with those in mind. At around 20 quid, this is worth it. After a couple of get togethers where the G&T's are flowing, you'll believe that it paid for itself. However, you'll find it useful for so much more.

The ceramic blade on the Kyocera slicer is fantastically sharp but the plastic holder/hand guard is slightly fiddly. This lead me to attempt slicing a potatoe holding it only with my fingers, not recommended! Great slicer but if you want to avoid bloodshed use the holder thingy. Delivery was a disappointment, estimated delivery 17th December, actual delivery 5th Jan.

My favorite slicer, first one i bought in MALAYSIA in 2012 and it was working till now over 10 years.

I had a black version of this (excellent) but this new one red has a VERY stiff height adjusted, and whereas the old one had a 0.5mm minimum thickness, this one is 1mm. The old one was better. Hence downgraded to 3 stars.

Easy to use - great results

Excellent product. Extremely sharp blade, adjustable width band , easy to use. I personally find the protective guard very difficult to use as it does not pierce products very well. However I do have a protective glove and this works fine.

This is going strong well over a year into owning it. So fast and simple, no parts to rust or worry about losing, easy controls for four thin sizes, no fuss or hassle like larger sets - just hangs compactly waiting to use, get brush-washed, and slide back into its slot until next time. The finger guards never work for me, so I have to watch my fingers, but that's universal. Within a pretty short time, these guys become indispensable go-to's for soups, salads, and seasoning veggies like onion and celery. I use the largest setting for dehydrating dense produce, and it's plenty sturdy enough to turn potatoes into hashbrowns or au gratin in no time. The only improvement would actually be a thicker largest setting. I almost never use the smallest two settings, and they're so similar, it could easily jump to the third and fourth to create a thicker setting (setting is achieved by turning a square bar that changes how high the base sits relative to the blade - four options, as fast as rolling a thumb, so it's really not a complaint at all).

Brilliant piece of kitchen equipment! I have purchased 2 more as gifts. The ceramic blade is super sharp and can slice veggies really, really thinly! Highly recommend!
