Surprisingly fun pic&mix bitesize tests but still enough to stretch and challenge.
The Schofield & Sims 11+ Rapid tests is a series designed to prepare young children from Year 2 all the way up to sitting the 11+ in stages building speed and fluency in this case maths and are designed to enhance the skills and knowledge needed for any of the testing methods meaning you can't go wrong buying the 'wrong' prep materials. Answer booklet included and is removable from the pack so as to prevent cheating. The tests are short but sweet aiming to be a rapid test roughly 10-12 minutes long and covering a range of skills in the test rather than drill after drill of one skill, it also helps to assess over time weaknesses and strengths as to concentrate the future practice or instruction side of tuition. These books are an ideal way to encourage maths skills whether through tuition (home or bought in) in preparation for the 11+, whether as stretch and challenge for gifted students, to combat 'brain drain' during the summer holidays, or as part of home education they are a great and undemanding way to assess progress and follow a curve of expected development by age too which is great especially when stretching and challenging or indeed if you are unfamiliar with how to prepare your child for the 11+.I'm not sure of our path yet with our 5 year old but thanks to a love of maths these are a great and fun but bitesize way to stretch and challenge her numeracy skills too, so don't think they are JUST for people who want to drill for the 11+.Unlike books designed to support a child's progress through key stage 1 & 2 these books are designed to build and test the knowledge required for the 11+ within that framework meaning the booklets get progressively harder as a child ages, but in my opinion are harder than support booklets for this age group because they are targeting skills that surpass the expectations of the primary maths curriculum including but not limited to place value; calculations; measurement;geometry; fractions, decimals and percentages; algebra; and statistics. This means a child who is struggling in maths in a regular school may struggle with these tests and that is something to bear in mind if using these for preparation or tutoring, teaching or consolidating these skills may be a necessity still.

Great help
My son struggles with maths so we got this for some additional help. He's not that keen on school work but as this wasn't set by his teacher he was happy to give it a go. It starts off easy and gets harder as it goes on but he's stuck with it and his maths has definitely got better. It's been a great help.

Excellent practice book
I found this book to be excellent, good layout, well written and with a good variety of questions:- 3 sections of 12 tests in each- starts with simple concepts and gets progressively more difficult- each page is 1 test; there is enough space to write answers, scores and record time taken- good variety of questions in each test (graphs, tables, addition/subtraction, maths problems, scenarios, etc.- I'm not a teacher but it appears to follow the curriculum well.Overall I think this is a great study aid. I'll be looking to get the complete set.

Loads of questions!
I really like this little book because it packs in so many questions and each exercise can done separately.I’ve photographed a couple of pages so you can get an idea of what’s included. Answers are provided in the middle of the book.

Quick Reviews!
The Great British Summertime - a time when kids are supposed to spend two months playing football, riding bikes, climbing trees, and pretending to blow up baddies with guns made out of plastic and sticks, or maybe even stoking those first embers of romance on one of those seemingly endless evenings when the sun refuses to lay its head beyond Horizon's reach. That's how it should be, but for that one summer between Primary 6 and Primary 7 something altogether more evil looms overhead - the 11+ transfer test, creeping ever closer between the end of June and the start of September. I remember than Summer all too well - doing and redoing practice tests over and over again when I should have been out sprinting through the grass, playing volleys and headers, and filling my face with sweets. You can enrich your child's summers now, even earlier, with these practice tests aimed at a younger audience! Thankfully these are shorter tests and can be completed in a few minutes, rather than the full blown torture devices of my youth. They don't make them like that anymore - thank the lord.

Excellent book
Another excellent practice/study book aimed at 6-7 year-olds and it ties in with the curriculum which is always good. This book is full of bite-sized maths test to help your child to get used to answering specific maths questions. The repetition certainly helps. I wish we had these books when I was a kid. I hated maths and these sort of books would have really helped me.Well laid out and the tests get progressively harder in each section. The answers are at the back. Easy to see any progress being made and where the areas are that need more work on them.Very good and made to be more fun than just straight testing.

A good start for getting to grips with numbers
This book is a very useful start for those embarking on their 11+ preparations. It’s well laid out, with short tests and a target time to complete. There are also lots of pictures to hold the child’s interest so it’s not too dense with just words and numbers. The tests start a little easy (for example, knowing your 3x table) but get more difficult as they progress. I’d say this book is even good for getting younger children familiar with maths, even without the idea of the 11+. It will make maths less of a scary subject, and one where children will become more familiar, not only with the testing world, but also with numbers.
