If you like Persona, give it a shot.
I'm a huge fan of the Persona games, and a lot of that has to do with the setting- they take place near the current day as far as tech and social issues go.So going into Metaphor, I was kind of bummed that this was a high fantasy, medieval-ish kind of game. There are just so many of those, especially in the anime space. Never appealed to me personally. After playing this for ~30 hours however, it is fantastic. Even with the setting, this game sheds light on some very current issues with the world, just from a different perspective. The art style is fantastic, and there are some really neat details if you take the time to look at things. I particularly enjoy how the textures on character models are animated even when sitting still, as if the artist is sketching/adding lines in real time. The soundtrack, voice acting, and gameplay are fantastic as well.Overall, Metaphor feels like a perfect evolution of the Persona series. Much of the base gameplay is taken from Persona, with the social links and time management, but it is fine-tuned in a way that makes it feel a bit different but still very enjoyable. Give it a shot, even if you don't enjoy high fantasy settings.

A fun RPG
Been wanting to try an Atlus RPG for a while and figured now was as good a time as any. My biggest concern going in was the time management mechanic seen previously in the Persona series, but so far it hasn't been a problem. I usually tackle the core objectives early and I'm left with plenty of spare time to develop character bonds and wrap up side quests until the next objective is given. One early recommendation is to escape/retry enemy encounters if the enemies land the first hit as even on the easy difficulty it will leave you on the back foot for the rest of that encounter. To give a comparison, the combat is similar to the job system from final fantasy 5 so the overall challenge is more dependent on finding which classes/moves are most effective in a given area zone/dungeon. Don't want to spoil too much so I'll just say that its a fun time with beautiful visuals, a great story, and a surprisingly flexible battle system. Would recommend.

Persona Fantasy
Looking for something to scratch that itch until Persona 6? Play this. Wanted Persona games to feel a little more like Final Fantasy? Play this. Wanted a Persona game with the grotesque body horror of a Soulsborne game? Play this. Metaphor has all that, it's got the gameplay and mechanics of modern Persona games, all the way down to a talkative helper character, a plethora of different races and lore rich fantasy locations like Final Fantasy, and monsters called "humans" that really defy description. The game also has more of a challenge than Persona games. Usually the first time-limited "dungeon" can be gone through pretty quickly leaving a lot of time to do other activities on the outside, but here the first such dungeon is a tower you have to go to the roof on with only a few items that can replenish small amounts of MP requiring frequent exits to replenish MP and return the next day. This was an unexpected challenge that I enjoyed. It's overall a fun game that I might even replay again right after.

"Heroism lies in the soul that stands firm against its fears."
After seeing the reveal almost 2 years ago and keeping up with a lot of the trailers I can say this game does not disappoint in the slightest. I am a huge fan of developer Atlus' games, with Persona 5 Royal being my favorite game of all time, so I was going in with high expectations and somehow this game managed to surpass all of them in virtually every single aspect. The visuals and art are unmatched, the gameplay is fun and stylish and the story is unlike no others. It is a worthy purchase filled to the brim with content and a metanarrative that is sure to stick with you for life. Metaphor has one of the most poetic and profound messages in all of gaming, and it is not afraid to tackle themes like racism and inequality , and it does so in very smart ways. It has a message rooted within the ideals of a just society, and it is a must play for any JRPG fan, or RPG fan in general.Do not miss out on this game.

If You Like SMT and Persona This is a No Brainer Pickup
One of the best JRPGs I've ever played. This game has an amazing story and decent gameplay. The only negative I can really give to the gameplay is that it is pretty easy. I don't want to say much about the story because I don't want to spoil it. All the major cut scenes are done in an anime style which works very well for the game.If you like SMT and Persona then this is a no brainer pickup.

A wonderful adventure.
Love the story telling and the mechanics. Not a fan of grinding and at times it is necessary. Overall a beautiful game and worth the investment.
