Wonderfully insane
Cosmic horror exists beyond tritely anthropomorphic categorization; these stories capture the overwhelming variety of images the Old Ones' Return shall bring, written on human vellum in a black, cloyingly sour bile. A truly wonderful read!

Fun read
Excellent collection of dark stories of what happens if the Old Ones have their way. Lots of interesting takes on the madness that Lovecraft introduced us to back in his stories. I really enjoyed this collection.

Mostly effective.
I won't lie. There are some weak stories in the anthology that don't seem to fit. The majority of it though is wonderfully atmospheric and creepy.

While any themed collection suffers from being repetitive , this one suffers A LOT. It's like there was a checklist , make the main character have suppressed memories , throw in some cults , and BOOM , end the world. Failing that , just throw a bunch of weird stuff against the wall and see what sticks. There were a few stories I did like , but ultimately I think the theme constricted the plots too much , the writing was mostly fine throughout. If I read these by themselves and not back to back I'm sure they wouldn't have annoyed so much , but the same thing over and over with just increasingly over the top weird for the sake of it was just tiresome.Did I mention how repetitive this is yet?

Worth the read
Just like any anthology. Lots of good stories, some better than others and a few extremely good ones.Worth the time and read, some interesting takes on the end of everything.

15/35/50
15% awesome stories, 35% good to really good stories, and 50% stories ranging from “That was alright” to Well, that just happened” and down to “I skimmed it after the first few pages, checked the end just in case, and then started reading the next story”. 3.5 stars, really. The awesome stories were A-1, legit.

Short stories of variable quality - but the same concepts kept repeating from story to story. Got old after a while.

Reads like fan fiction
A collection of generally quite weak short stories based on what feels like a trope-based understanding of the mythos. Also a lot of use of squick or over description rather than good plot.
