Sorry for the long review... but its so great!
This printer makes me the happiest college student. After dealing with a older HP Inkjet printer that took about 45 seconds just to print one page, I finally decided it was time to get rid of it.I worked in a Copy Center and knew that laser printers were the way to go, so I did some pretty extensive research on monochrome printers for a good 3 month's before I threw my inkjet to the curb. What I liked about this one initially is that it could do double sided prints automatically, wireless connection, and had mobile printing capabilities. I honestly didn't care much for the ppm's because anything that was faster than the inkjet would be a saving grace.Since my computer does not have a CD drive, I double checked on the HP website for the installation and software drivers that they had. Long and behold, they were there and you could download the full software and installation with the updates with them (sweeeeeet)I made sure to check on how it performs with the wireless connection, so that way it doesn't just work on day and then tomorrow its giving me the stink eye and telling me it's not connected. Found hardly anyone that had a problem with the printer that had connection problems. I lastly checked for how the cartridges measured up and if high yield cartridges were good to use and if they were from different brands would the printer still function. All checked out. After scratching off all samsung printers, random printers from the abyss with some funcky names, some high end brother printers that were overly large, some HPs that had some problems and were also over sized, it came down to this little guy and a brother printer. What made the deciding deal, was that installation would be easier and less of a hassle for me.It does everything I want it to do plus that. Installation took no more than 10 minutes. If you don't do what I did and get cocky thinking you know everything already and you do it on your own, you'll be golden and will probably take less time. The pages, although in monochrome, come out in a flash. If your amazed by how fast it is and want to show your friends, print a demo page.. it makes them jealous. Whats great about the monochrome also is that is doesn't look blurry, funky pixels, and weird lines. It was smooth as a babys butt. Tried printing in both 600 dpi and 1200 dpi, both beautiful. I used Hammer Mills 24 pound laser printer paper with it also.Unraveling this guy was easy too. Follow the prompt that they give you so you don't mess up the cartridge inside and such. Takes 30 seconds. So my case in point is that I love this printer. Barely makes a sound, has exceeded my expectations, and has been my smartest purchase on Amazon.

Adequate for the SOHO User
This machine does exactly what it was purchased to do - it prints fairly quickly and will even print on both sides of a sheet of paper when necessary. It does this over a wireless network (WLAN) or can be connected to a network using Ethernet. For a single workstation, it has a USB port for connecting directly to the computer. However, don't expect this to be much more than a small office/home office laser printer where printing is a secondary, light-duty task. These are the pros and cons as I see them:Pros:- Easily configured to WLAN, Ethernet or USB depending on how you want to use the machine.- Fairly fast printing; duplex (two-sided) printing will slow down the printing, naturally.- Inexpensive for even the most frugal laser printer user.- Responds reliably to AirPrint requests from an iPad 2 Air and iPhone 4s whether the machine is in ready mode or in sleep mode.- The paper feed path is straighter than other laser printers I have used, so there should be less likelihood of paper jams or paper curl. I haven't had any jams yet after a ream of paper in less than 2 day's use and paper curl is minimal.- Same HP monochrome laser print quality I have come to expect over the years.Cons:- Tries to "phone home and tattle" to HP about the toner in use... with the HP-provided starter toner in the machine! Seriously, HP?!! I have used lesser laser printers that knew when their factory-provided starter cartridge was installed. That piece of bogus snitch-ware which installed with the driver is an aggravating annoyance at best.- The cost of replacement high-yield cartridges are almost the same as the cost of the printer itself. This isn't unusual for the printer market in general, but disappointing that a company based in the U.S. is trying to emulate the offshore printer manufacturers' marketing strategies.- Filling the paper input tray isn't as simple as pulling a cassette tray out of the machine and stacking paper in it. The cover for the paper input tray and paper stop of this machine get in the way of inserting the paper even when performed according to the direction in the user manual.- Buffer is too small for some print requests over WLAN. This machine has failed to print simple online documents if the request is sent to it over the WLAN. When the machine is connected to the LAN using Ethernet, or connected directly to the workstation via USB, this failure does not occur. Different wireless routers, access points and WLAN configurations have been used in the course of troubleshooting this issue and the machine performance has been the same. Your mileage may vary...

Simple, fast & effective network laser printer with auto duplex printing
Simple and effective network laser printer. I have WiFi in the house, but I prefer to use Ethernet when it is feasible (in this case, there was an existing drop right next to the printer's location).Setup was easy. I plugged the Ethernet cord into the printer, and downloaded the the driver/software package from HP. The printer was automatically detected by the software. I then made a DHCP reservation for the printer's MAC address on my router (this is not necessary for setup, but something I chose to do for IP address management purposes). The printer worked fine from the onset. I have not connected via WiFi or USB, but I keep a USB cable plugged into the back of the printer just in case. The major selling point for me on this unit was the auto duplex printing. Printing documents via email is a nice perk, although I don't anticipate needing to use it. I could have paid a bit more and bought an all-in-one unit (i.e., print/copy/scan/fax), but I have an AIO inkjet for such applications.Overall, nice little printer. It prints fast, and does so on both sides of the page. It's got USB, WiFi, and Ethernet connectivity. If all you need is a reliable monochrome laser printer, this one fits the bill and leaves nothing more to be desired.
