Imma Try Out the Stuff in the Emergency Kit!!
I’ve never tried the stuff in the emergency kit before. We have them and then they just expire and we have to get a new one. It’s better to be safe than sorry, right? This time I’m going to try the stuff (excited). I guess this is a car pack kind of thing? The package it comes in is definitely not waterproof. The Mask: It’s like the one the dentist wears; the blue pleated one with the ear straps. It’s not packaged in plastic or anything. It was just hanging out in the box uncovered. The Gloves. There is a 1/4” of length left on top of my fingers when I wear them. There is a lot of extra width in them. My glove size is S and they were quite baggy so it looks like it would fit an array of sizes. The Water: It’s water in a bag! It tastes plastic-y! The packaging says, “Water is obtained from a municipal water source.” Does that mean it’s tap water? The manufacture Date is June 2023 and the expiration date is June 2028. Neat! …but I prefer Sp*rkletts. It’s 125ml of water. The internets says one gallon is 3785mL. The back of the bag says to use four bags per person per day. So this would work for six hours? The Bar: I’ve never had emergency rations before and I was most excited to try this one. It says it’s vanilla flavored. It’s super sweet! I can feel the crunchy sugar granules and the texture of dried coconut. It tastes like a strange crumbly cookie with a bit of a rubber aftertaste. I guess I have energy now? I don’t feel much different. I’m not sure I liked it but I think I did because I finished it and didn’t want to give it up. The best by date on this was, “10/28” so I assume that means October of 2028? I might have to get more of these…The Blanket: They put these on people after a marathon! It’s very, very thin. It reminds me of mylar (Is it mylar? I looked it up. The Internets says most of them are made of mylar with a layer of aluminum on them.). It’s very, very long and wide. When I put it up to my eyes, I can see through it. I left it covering my knee and my knee did feel warm. The Poncho: I’m 5’2”-3” and the poncho reaches to mid calf. The sleeves are like 3/4 length sleeves on me. It’s plastic and clear yellow, but kind of smells like rubber. The Red First Aid Kit: There’s antiseptic wipes, burn cream, and an assortment of latex-free bandaids in it. I like the transparent red pouch. The Light Stick: This the smaller sized one. It’s about four inches long. The Whistle: I didn’t try it. I’d get in trouble for making noise while someone was on a work call…The Hand Sanitizer: I didn’t use it. It’s in a small paper and aluminum pouch. The Pamphlet: It has a lot of interesting information in it. It has “American Red Cross” written on the cover so I think I’ll try to get everyone else in the house to read it.Neat and nice to have!

Nice kit with room for improvement
I found this kit to be quite comprehensive, covering most of the essentions one would need. It is reassuring to have such a variety available. However, I was a bit let down by the packaging. While the kit is well-organized, the amount of plastic used doesn't seem to contribute to additional waterproofing or protection.Having managed without such a kit for many years, it's presence is a welcome addition. Yet, I can't help but notice the 18-month lifespan indicated by the expiration date. It's a reminder to be mindful of the usage and shelf life of such items. For anyone considering this kit, it's a solid choice with the potential to be a staple in your safety preparedness. Just keep in mind that while it's nice to have all these items, you'll likely use only a select few within their effective period.

Important Stuff- Necessary to Have
This is a review of the American Red Cross Officially Licensed Product, Emergency Response Pack. This is a very important thing to have. This is all terrific stuff. It's always difficult to rate an item that you hope never to have to use. I guess my biggest problem now is to decide just where I want to keep it; car, house, book bag, somewhere else. Responding to an emergency is having the right stuff with you when and where you need it.Also a nice touch is the Emergency First Aid Guide that is included. Word to the wise: take the guide out and READ IT... don't just leave it in the pack untouched. You want to know what to do when the emergency is happening; that is not the time to read the instructions. My verdict: 5 stars.

Better safe than sorry
My husband and I have several trips coming up, and I ordered this essentials kit from the American Red Cross to take with us. This has quite a few things we might need in a remote area. It is not all-inclusive so I will be supplementing this with some other pre-made kits, but it is really better to be overprepared than underprepared.
