Perfect Laser
Excellent machine, comes almost fully assembled and is ready to use in minutes. I’ve been cutting 1/8” plywood for a few hours a day for the last month and have had no issues with the laser getting weaker or not cutting as well. Very easy to use with light burn, looks sleek on the workbench, and is able to go significantly faster than other lasers I have used. Everything is assembled well and seems strong and sturdy besides one of the plastic cable hood downs that broke, but it didn’t seem necessary to have in the first place.

Excellent laser with basically no assembly required
The media could not be loaded. I've had 3 other lasers before this one and let me tell you, it's unfair if you get this as your first laser. You should have to assemble a janky cheap one as sort of a rite of passage before you upgrade to something this ridiculously ready. Assembly is basically done for you. Just hook up a couple cords and put the laser on the mount and it's ready to go. It took me a little while to get the driver downloaded but that was on me. It's already included on the tf card that comes in the machine. Once I got that figured out this machine is a sinch to use. Look at this video. This is like 5 minutes into messing with it and I got a super clean cut through the plywood they include. You'll also noticed how fast the 40w can make that clean cut. I'm pumped. It's going to be so fun to use this. The enclosure is fantastic, funnel all your smoke out a window and don't worry about onlookers hurting their eyes. Sure the fan could use a little more oomph but it does what it's meant to. Just give it a few seconds when you're done to clear out the smoke or buy an upgraded one if you want. The air pump works great. It's pretty quiet and it's connected to the machine so you can use the dial on front for more or less airflow and you don't need an extra outlet. Last but not least, check out how cool this think looks! Its guaranteed to make your workshop look higher tech and futuristic! For all the stuff that comes included, this is an excellent value in my opinion. Definitely fast and accurate enough for production for a small business. I've had other genmitsu products like CNCs and they've been excellent so I bet this laser will last a long time without issues too. I'll update the review if I run into any problems. I was just so excited about how cool it is I had to leave a review and let everyone know right away.

Poor quality, nonexistent support. Does not live up to claims.
Terrible product, nonexistent support.Does not live up to claims made by manufacturer and their material sheet. Recommends engraving wood at 36000 and 100%, but barely makes a light mark on balsa wood. More like 25000 at 100%, a very large discrepancy. Does not cut steel or engrave it.The tolerances on this are embarrassing, the lid does not sit flush, laser leaks out underneath a rather large gap between it and the bottom frame. The camera is impossible to get to stay calibrated, as the cheap hinges, non flush lid, and poor quality lead to a constant shifting of the camera angle. It does not cut accurately, frequently being 2-3cm off from the light burn position. It also does not match the scale given. Example edge to edge or a gap from the edge, it either comes out too small or too large consistently. Sometimes it cuts random non existent lines. I have spent about 20 hours trying to get this to work, and have sent emails to support with no reply. There is no phone number. Go somewhere else.

40 watt Genmitsu L8
The Genmitsu L8 has worked well so far. I haven't really tested it's limits yet. It is much faster than a 10 watt I own. The camera was suppose to come calibrated but I found that it had to be re-calibrated as it was off by almost an inch. Once calibrated it has worked pretty well, getting it calibrated was a chore. It cuts nice but it is not as intuitive as my other laser, it has to be focused by hand. The lever that tightens the laser to the frame is extremely hard to loosen once tightened-I had to use a screwdriver to wedge it loose to adjust the focus. There are 3 fixed focuses. I made a printout for the focus parameters and taped it to the front of the machine so that I don't have to pull out the manual every time I need to adjust. The machine was packaged nicely-no moving parts during shipping. This machine does not have a bottom. It comes with a honeycomb that slides into place by lifting a corner of the frame and pushing it under, it does slide nicely into place but it will sit directly on the counter/table top but, it is not attached to the machine. The frame does have legs that tuck away nicely when not in use, which makes for a nice smooth look. While the surround is nice, prevents too much smoke in the room and helps with eye protection, I have 2 kittens who like to jump/sit on anything that does not move and their weight is enough to bend the top while even one of them is on it. I have had to rig a cover that keeps them from sitting directly on the machine while also protecting the camera surround that juts out of the top. The surround is framed acrylic, the top is not framed, it is a single piece of 3mm hinged acrylic. The connections are on the front of the machine, the fan on the back which requires more counter space than I had originally planned for. I prefer direct connection, which means that the machine requires 2 USB ports to use the machine and the camera at the same time via USB. I haven't tried the wifi connectivity. The L8 does not have proprietary software and requires Lightburn to use the camera. It was an added expense-(though most laser users have this program, I did not because my previous laser came with free software). I have not had to contact support so cannot write about that. It is difficult to find information about this particular machine. There are some "I got this laser for free to try/review" and manufacturer videos but not much else. I purchased this particular model while it was discounted and had a coupon which made it significantly less expensive than other 40 watt enclosed lasers, with a camera, currently on the market. My father owns a Genmitsu Prover (with laser attachment) and he has had it for several years, so I know the brand makes quality frames. I haven't been able to determine if a beginner would find this machine overwhelming or not. It comes already built which is a positive (I had a laser that had to be built and it was a chore as well) it has a surround, if you can use vector software (LaserGRBL or Lightburn) then it is just a matter of connecting and starting. Any laser will require a learning curve and a certain amount of waste material for testing.
