Self Sealing, Removable Cup
TheFatRancher only reviews items which he has actually used! For Mother's Day, The Fat Rancher decided to give mama a hand with her chickens. To help manage the daily watering tasks, The Fat Rancher built her a watering system using the Harris Farms Poultry Watering Cups BPA Free Chicken Watering Cups. These water cups have a spring loaded valve that seals the water source until pecked at by the bird. Notably, the water cups themselves can be removed to clean. Note that the package does not include backing nuts. So if you decide to use these on a plastic bucket for a reservoir, make sure you drill the holes undersized so that the waterers can self thread into the bucket, sealing with the included plastic washers. In my application, I had some 1/2 inch tees which took the 1/4" waterers directly into a pipe thread. The watering cups worked just fine, holding back the water pressure from the 2 gallon reservoir.

Use a thick-walled container or buy the T's
Okay just pointing out from my experience I'm not sure why they tell you to just drill through 'the plastic' and screw these in. There isn't a locking nut to use on the backside and most buckets are too thin to support the threads. If you have a thicker material then it might be okay but honestly if you're using these you should be using some PVC piping for the water system. These are perfect for using with the PVC threaded Ts you can buy. You can pick them up here on Amazon for example these -- 12 Pack Chicken Waterer PVC Tee Fittings ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLV875DL/ )Pairing these drinking cups with the Ts and they are good drinking cups. I used these with a set of the Ts to add an extra watering station to the brooder/mini coop. They work well, fill as they should, don't leak, and the chickens took right to using them. If they want to really sell these they should offer their own Ts to use them in the most stable way.

Well made and easy to install
These drinking cups are well made and easy to install on a 5 gallon bucket. They are big enough to get the chickens attention so they know there is water available. These make giving water to chickens much easier and much cheaper than buying bigger pre made chicken waterers. I use a small brush to clean them out and that makes it easier to get around the cup and moving part.Well made and easy to use. Made thing much easier in my extremely dry and warm climate to be sure chickens have water at all times.

Easy to install
I installed these in a 5 gallon bucket. It's as simple as drilling a hole and twisting the cup into place. I had no issues with leaking. There is definitely a learning curve for the chickens, but they figured it out.

Leaks or Doesn't Refill
I have bought several different types of auto-waterers for my girls. This was the first type I tried. I had high hopes for these. I liked that you can easily remove the cups - just by twisting - for easy cleaning. The chicks seemed to take right to them, so no worries there. Unfortunately, there are three MAJOR issues with these. Out of two dozen of this type that I've tried (and shared with my friends to try), most of them would either continuously leak or wouldn't refill at all. In all fairness, a few of them seemed to work as intended - the filled up as the girls pecked at them and sealed off to prevent overflowing. But the number of failures is far greater than the number of successes. I would come out to check on them only to find some cup continuously dripping while others were bone dry.Another issue with this particular brand of this type is that these do not include any kind of retaining nut. The idea of this is that you drill a 3/8" hole into your bucket and thread this into that hole. Five gallon buckets are not that thick. There is not a lot of material there to actually grab. Most brands of this type waterer, although just as bad, at least come with wing nuts that you can use to help secure the spout into the bucket. This does not. They just expect the 1mm thick plastic to hold this in place as live chickens are pecking at it.I really wish I could recommend this, but... this ain't it.

Very well designed
I've used a lot of watering cups and ripples for our rabbits, chickens, ducks and peacock. Two piece designs are the quickest to fail. This cup is a solid one piece design that fits an 1/8" NPT fitting perfectly. Our manifolds are fed by a 300 gallon rain tank and have had a failure that drained nearly the entire tank. Ducks were happy, everyone else, not so much. I have high confidence in these. I do wish they were a little larger for the ducks but I've seen those girls go for the ripples so time will tell. Highly recommended.
