Super cool toy!
This little shoulder sitting toy is super cute! Gabbers now lives next to all of our books and acts as a fun little toy we can hang out with. It seems like there aren’t many settings, but we have a lot of fun with the simpleness of the toy. Gabbers is especially loved by the youngest kids in the house, and we’ve had it for quite awhile with no issues. This is definitely the most unique vtech toy we’ve ever owned, and I definitely my favorite one.

Lots of fun
My kids 2 & 4 are fighting over Gabbers. It’s soft, lightweight and not clunky. I tried the magnetic shoulder position on myself and it’s okay, doesn’t work with my four year old because her shoulders are too small so the bird slides off unsupported. Otherwise, it’s a well thought out toy with many features. The songs are well known and get the kids dancing. I don’t know what triggers the bird to repeat what you say, but it is happening. Very cute!

Parents beware of this parroting toy!
There's a slight learning curve with the recording cues, but once you understand how it works it's great or a tad annoying. With a single press of the center button, it will make a small chirp and you can record something. If you want to end it early, click the button again and it'll repeat itself in a sing song voice. Sometimes the toy will truncate the phrase. The only negative is you can't record something and have it say the same thing over and over again. It records it once, plays it, then immediately forgets it.

My 16 month old loves it!
I only use the cuddle mode for my 16 month old, but the magnet works well to keep Gabbers on larger shoulders. The eyes light up different colors and she tweets, sings, and repeats you at the touch of a button. My daughter loves it and quickly learned to push the buttons on her own. This m a keys a wonderful gift for young kids!!

Adorable toy that acts like a friend!
This was a nice find for my kid. When you press the belly of the toy, it beeps and then you can talk to it. It then repeats what you say which is adorable. The fuzzy hair on top is smooth to the touch. This toy seems very safe and engaging. It also plays music if you press its wing. Again, kids will really love this as it is an engaging toy. The coolest thing about this that I’ve seen is the ability to sit on your shoulder using magnets. Super simple to setup and get rolling with this toy. Excellent value and will hold up through my kids.

Kids had a blast playing with this
My kids are absolutely in love this little toy, and it's great for a range of ages. While part of the fun is playing music (just tap the little notes on the bird's wings), the big selling feature for my kids is the voice playback. They can spend an inordinate amount of time making ridiculous noises to the bird and laughing hysterically while it plays back, with each of them wanting to take turns to make even more ridiculous noises. Not really sure that's what the intention was for this toy, but hey, it keeps them busy and they're laughing so that's all the matters! The concept of having it perch on your shoulder is really cute. It isn't perfect technology, as it can slide or fall off it bumped into, but overall still a fun idea.I would like it if the recording was manual ie: you could start/stop it when you wanted. My kids don't mind waiting for the tune, but sometimes you get background noise in the recording if your phrase is short. Overall it's not the end of the world though.A big plus is how adorable the bird is. He looks a little bit like a Ty stuffy with the big eyes, and rounded body. All said, given the price point, I'd still give it 5 stars since it's like a cuddly stuffy, but with the added bonus of a few little songs and a hilarious game of 'make it say funny things' for our kids. Even our kids who I thought were way too old for this toy wanted in on the fun.

Cute toy; fun voice repetition but disappointing songs
This bird is very cute and the fur is very soft. The bird can play a very limited selection of short songs or sounds, can record and playback, and makes sounds if tossed around. Any time sounds are being made, the edges of the eyes light up and change colours.Using the record and playback feature (press the stomach), you need to wait for the sound to stop, then it begins recording. The recorded sound is made higher pitched and repeated 3 times. The play song feature (squeeze the wing) plays either very short sound/chirp or a short song.If the owl gets tossed around, it makes some funny noises and each eye becomes a different colour than the other. There is a magnet on the bottom, and a magnet pad is included to allow you to stick it to your shoulder – this works but requires you to be very still. The toy uses two AAA batteries – batteries are included but until I replaced them, all sounds seemed to be cut short. Our toddler has no interest in this toy (I couldn’t even get him to hold it for a picture!) but it may be partially because he has another toy that does similar playbacks. Our three-month-old is quite interested though.Overall, this is a cute toy, but I’d recommend this more as a stuffed toy than an interactive one.

Fun toy for kids of all ages
Obviously this toy, the VTech Gabbers, is intended for younger kids, but all of our kids (ages 2 to 9) really love it. Similar to a karaoke machine, this toy is super fun for kids since it's got the sound recording option and they LOVE hearing themselves; on the other hand it can get a bit annoying for the adults in the room to hear their repeated obnoxious noises but it's all in good fun. The size is kind of small and big and I do find it a bit heavy/hard so I have to be careful with my 2 year old since they're a thrower and this could definitely do some damage (or break) if it's thrown. It reminds me of a low key slightly less interactive Furby, but our kids really do have fun with it.

The kids are enjoying it, though it's a bit one dimensional
For all the lighting up of eyes and reacting to being tossed about, as an adult I find the VTech Gabbers Owl to be a bit boring. However, the kids continue to have fun with it... recording themselves and giggling at the Owl and at themselves. (That's what has earned it four stars instead of just three.) I guess you have to be a kid to get it?! LOLThe construction is good, as you'd expect from VTech. The fact that it's battery powered is slightly tiresome in this day and age of toys and gadgets that recharge using USB power. Instead, you'll need to keep supplying those darn AAA batteries!

Fun, Basic Toy
I think this is a fun little toy but its overall quality as a toy is reflected in the price. At its simplest, its a fun little bird that plays music. If your kid wants to, they can try to attach it to their shoulder with the magnet (but not the easiest thing to do), and they can also try to record their voice (its a bit tricky to learn (but definitely doable!) - you have to wait for the toy to end their message before you can record between the "chirps"). I think it is overall good quality and a nice good value toy for a young child.
