Best. Book. Ever.
Beautiful book. So proud to have this on my bookshelf and I re-read every few years. All the power to us women! So glad she inserted a chapter about trans women, and admitted her flaw about not including that particular community. Makes you think critically about how you spend your money, and who is worth supporting in all types of businesses. I recommend this to all my friends who aren’t sure about how to be a proactive feminist. 10/10.

This book changed my life.
I bought this book as a young and confused girl. It helped me so much, not only growing into adulthood but also realizing I'm gay. I've bought this book for many friends. I'm forever grateful and I love it. 💗

historiographically valuable & interesting, out of date, hostile towards men
I was recommended this book by a male friend of mine who read it when it he was in college. I enjoyed reading the author's preface to the second edition, telling about all the ways the writing of the book affected her and beautiful stories of how it was received at the time of its publishing. As a student of thought forms and practices that bring greater peace, harmony and love on earth, I was interested in looking at the book based on my friend's description of it as unearthing the history of a slur against women and moving into greater dignity surrounding the word and how we see ourselves as women. However, when I read the book it was not up to speed with compassion and current possibilities for respect of all people. While it seems the author had added some sections speaking to more diverse gender experiences of trans women and women from different race and class backgrounds, the text itself was crass in a way that I found unreadable. It felt very juvenile, collegiate, and lashing out from a place of hurt. While I am sure it was an amazing work of its time that moved conversation forward and empowered women to advance their own well being 20 years ago... I would not recommend it today as a text for women's empowerment. I leafed through it, reading sections from different chapters and in the end it felt too toxic energetically to remain on my bookshelf. I set it outside with a note saying free so that a passerby who it might resonate with could pick it up.If you intend to read this or gift this, be aware that the language is crass and it has a man hating vibration. I would not share this book with young people as seeds for how to relate to their own gender or to each other. With much honor to the author and the value of her work... I was called to write this honest review because I was expecting something more readable from this book. I would not have bought it if I had flipped through it at a bookstore rather than bought it online by recommendation.

Everyone should read this - male and female.
I love this book! It changed my view of feminism and opened my eyes to so much. I wish I had read it 30 years ago. Inga Muscio - you are a game- changer!

I hope the author is okay
I'm... really glad she's had so many adoring fans because after reading the book I was genuinely concerned for her mental well being... Ibuprofen was created as a conspiracy to specifically sell as something women didn't need for cramps??? Seriously? Also, the authority she spoke with about how if you take ibuprofen, your cramps will be worse the next month was nuts. Like, I'm not accusing her of lying about her own body (although I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a LITTLE skeptical about that claim), but for her to imply that that's true for everyone else's body? I can say with 100% certainty, I've had months with awful cramps, taken ibuprofen and then had NO cramps the following month... so... yeah. This book was infuriating and further explained the reasons why I don't identify as a cis woman anymore. 👍

My favorite.
Probably one of my favorite books ever written. Love that the anniversary edition covers trans women/intersectionality more closely. I gave this book to my cis male partner as required reading when we learned we were having a daughter!

Mandatory reading!,
Really enjoyable read. Moments where I had to stay in discomfort but they ended up being the biggest learning moments.
