Are these comfortable enough to run in if you really had to?

They're quite heavy for a running shoes . But they're comfortable enough to walk on if you add some gel insoles . Should you decide to add gel insoles , I suggest going one size up , and adding the thickest gel insoles you can find . That's what I do when buying shoes due to some nerve damage on my left foot .

What is the tread pattern? I'm looking for a pair that is fairly smooth so not to trap a lot of mud from jobsites.

Small depth in tread. Not enough to really collect a lot of mud. Also has a deeper groove in heel, again not really deep enough to collect a lot of mud. Both are just enough to give a skid proof step. Very nice boot
