Corkscrew effect!
The Only One Left by Riley Sager is described aptly by some as being like a corkscrew... Twist upon twist upon twist all spiraling downwards into an insane conclusion! What an emotional ride this was! Kit Mcdeere a caretaker for ailing elderly folks was the main character and narrator but for me the heart of the story is her patient Lenora Hope the paralyzed old woman , a Lizzie Borden-inspired character who is suspected of killing her entire family. She even has her own disturbing nursery rhyme that the school kids chant. I loved her character's complexity and how it bordered on devious and sympathetic ... Is she actually responsible for the murders and why has she chosen to finally spill her secrets to Kit after all these years? Overall I think this is one of Sager's best (& most complex), masterfully crafted twists and turns. I was blown away at how all these puzzle pieces finally fit together!

L’ultimo libro di Riley Sager per me è il migliore da lui scritto. Ti tiene incollato al libro dalla prima all’ultima pagina. Inizi a leggerlo e non riesci piu’ a smettere.Capolavoro.

Great twists but…
I did really enjoy this book. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a suspenseful, “can’t put down” read. The creepy setting and the story’s premise had me hooked until the very end. Several twists were revealed that I never saw coming. The only reason I’m giving this book four stars instead of five is because there was a bit too much going on. Several dimensions of this story were explored and it was a bit hard for me to keep track of them aml. I often found myself flipping back to previous chapters to re-read, or confirm what I read, to make sense of what the novel revealed. While the majority of the story was very well thought out, well organized and intricately written to set up the ending, the final twist seemed a bit too convenient for me. Almost out of place for how detailed the lead up to the others were. Despite this, I still recommend you give this one a go. I enjoyed it a lot!
