Newman's Own Organic Basil Leaves
Got this because basil is super versatile. Its nice and fragrant and I've been using it in a variety of dishes. Its great to have on hand since we don't often have fresh basil. It tastes fresh and has a good taste. The container it comes in is very nice and keeps it fresh.I am happy I got it.

Great for what it is
Don't have fresh basil leaves on hand? These are the second best thing for flavoring soups! They're surprisingly very very fragrant.

Great product, bottle not full
This Newman's basil is very good! I really enjoyed the flavor and the quality. The bottle design is nice because you can set the size on top to control pouring, but with the size of the leaves, you can't really use the smallest setting with basil. My only issue with this is that unlike another Newman's spice I ordered, the bottle wasn't filled to the top. My photo is from when it first came in and there was quite a bit of empty space in the bottle. I don't have a way to measure that the amount in there is as advertised, so I can't actually verify that. My only other reference point is that I had Newman's parsley and that bottle was filled to the top.

Next best thing to fresh basil
Newmans’ own has always been a reliable brand for spices, and these did not disappoint. The basil was quite fresh, and had a strong smell and taste. I am pretty sure the spices are newer because of the vivid flavor, but I was disappointed that I couldn’t interpret the Best By date on the bottom. It seemed to just be a jumble of random numbers, rather than an actual date. The bottle came with a secure seal under the metal cap. The metal cap on this bottle is different than most spice bottle caps, because you don’t remove the cap to shake or pour the spice. Instead, you rotate the top of the cap to expose the shake or pour spouts. The cap works fine and is sturdier than most spice bottles. Compared to a lot of other brands of basil, this is more expensive, at $5.99 a bottle, as currently priced on Amazon. However, the basil does seem fresher than most other brands, as it lets off a stronger smell and taste. You don’t need a lot of this to go a long way in flavoring your soups, sauces, or salad dressings. Overall, I would recommend this. It’s the next best thing to fresh, garden-grown basil.

Delicious
Added this to some pasta sauce and some chicken I made. Delicious. Glass bottle with shaker top. Fresh taste and smell.

Convenient shaker jar
When I received this basil the first thing I noticed was the metal lid. It is unique from other spice jars I've seen. First, it's metal; second, you twist the top around to open the shaker leaves without having to remove the cap. Makes it very convenient for quickly adding seasoning while cooking. The holes in the lid go from small to large so you can easily adjust how much seasoning you get out. This is the first Newman's Own spice I've tried so I am unsure if all their spices have this style lid or not.Onto the basil itself - nothing compares with fresh basil but unfortunately where I live I can only grow basil a few months out of the year so it's packaged the rest of the time for us. This basil from Newman's Own has a subtle but nice flavor.

Only Three stars because of the awful cap
Well the spices are fragrant and potent- but the cap needs to be less gimmicky, and the dispensing holes Bigger. I pulled the caps off and added the spices to some clean used dispensers I had saved. NOW I can use these spices to the best of their ability. In other words - not ordering this prduct anymore.

Not as good as fresh, but still good!
I really like this jar of basil leaves comes with a metal cap with multiple size apertures for choosing exactly how much/how fast I want to add spice to my cooking. Basil is excellent for all my soups and occasionally for adding to a roast or other dish. It tastes good, with a decently distant expiration date so there's no serious rush to use as much as I can before it expires. The flavor is not quite as good as fresh basil, but I can use this year round which is an advantage.
