Excellent introduction to Europe in handy package.
Excellent underrated rock band. Thus compilation includes their first 5 albums including their breakout album and single The Final Countdiwn. I had a couple of these on vinyl, and bought their later albums on CD. So it's great to have full collection in this format.

plenty of songs to listen too
the C.D I ordered was more than one so it was good value for the money but they only come in a sleeve rather than a case which I think kept the price down

Great albums with great songs for a great price. It's perfect!
Like the majority of people 'The Final Countdown' was the first song I had listened to from this group - an amazing energetic track that is one of my favourite songs of all time. When I saw this set I decided to go for it because of its favourable price and I don't regret it! The Final Countdown is without a shadow of a doubt the best song they've produced, but they have produced other great tracks ('Got Your Mind in the Gutter' and 'Lights and Shadows' have really grown on me). Whether you like the genre or like some kicking tracks to run to this is a really good set.

da, da, da, daa, daaaa, da, da-da-da-da-da
Budget CD box-set containing Europe's first five albums recorded between 1984 and 1991. These are bare-bones, non-remastered releases of Europe, Wings Of Tomorrow, The Final Countdown, Out Of This World and Prisoners Of Paradise. The first two are the heaviest in the set. Europe (*****) has 'Future To Come' and the proggy 'Seven Doors Hotel', easily one of the best songs Europe ever recorded. Wings Of Tomorrow (*****) is another top-drawer album featuring 'Stormwind' and the powerful title track. Final Countdown (****) contains 'that' song, 'Carrie', 'Cherokee' and 'Rock The Night', the first single I ever bought (which had Seven Doors as the b-side). It's a departure from the first two which probably explains why Guitar god John Norum left. Keyboard-heavy, ballad-heavy Out Of This World (***) is the weakest of the five here although it's pleasant enough. Highlights include Norum replacement Kee Marcello's soloing and single 'Open Your Heart'. 1991's Prisoners Of Paradise (*****) is a killer rock album with some beautiful guitar playing from Marcello. Prisoners has some Bon Jovi-esque moments ('All Or Nothing', 'Bad Blood', 'Homeland') and some great hard-rock songs ('Got Your Mind In The Gutter', 'Girl From Lebanon' etc). I'd say POP is the best album here because it hangs together very well. The grueling schedule of album/tour, album/tour eventually led to Europe disbanding. The newer incarnation of Europe is merely a continuum from Prisoners Of Paradise (with the addition of returning guitarist Norum).I owe bands like Europe and Bon Jovi a debt of gratitude as they were my 'gateway' to the harder rock of WASP, Maiden and Metallica. As such, I've always had a soft spot for them because otherwise, I'd still be listening to 80's pop-music. I'm on record as saying I love these album box-sets - they're cheap, take up less space and show the progression of a band. I put this on my wish-list at £16.99 and I got it for £11.53, a very reasonable £2.30 for each CD. If you prefer band photos, credits or say, lyric sheets then you'd be better off with the jewel cases although there isn't much point with Europe as you can hear every word Joey Tempest sings. If you don't know what they sound like (because you've been living in a cave for 30 years), imagine a smorgasbord of well-crafted, tuneful, memorable, 70's soft rock and glam akin to Journey or Survivor.

Imprescindible.

The First Five Europe Albums for very little money!
This small Box Set includes the first 5 Europe albums, and all are good to very good. There is no filler album in this set. From the Debut album, simply named Europe we are treat to good rock music; there are about 3 stand out tracks on this disc, including Seven Doors Hotel, which was a minor hit for them on their first ever album. The 2nd album entitled "Wings of Tomorrow" is my favorite from Europe, here literally every Song is a hit. It must also be mentioned that this is, as far as I know, the fastest and hardest Europe album ever recorded, quite ironically before they recorded their biggest selling album called "The Final Countdown". The aforementioned album was their greatest commercial success, but this also led to some claiming that Europe sold out with this album, as it clearly sounds more AOR orientated than the other 2 before it. Unfortunately, Europe would be stigmatized via this album, as many believe that this was the typical Europe sound on this 1986 album. The truth is simply that Europe only sounded like this on "The Final Countdown"! This album is still good all the way through. The next album showed Europe trying to emulate the enormous success they had with the previous one. "Out of this World" is a very solid good rock album; however, it could not replicate the immense success of "The Final Countdown", which sold around 7 million copies following its release. Nonetheless, "Out of this World" is not to be underestimated: it had a minor hit in "Not Superstitious", a lofty rocking number, but overall this album must have been commercially speaking a slap in the face for the band, as it came nowhere near the selling numbers of its predecessor. The last album on this Box Set is "Prisoners in Paradise", and it was clearly different from all the other ones. Its kind of overproduced and reminds me at times of Def Leppard when they released Hysteria, that was also way overproduced but in contrast to the fifth Europe album was a huge commercial success. "Prisoners in Paradise" is thus not a bad album, rather the production is flawed; however, musically its still a good album to have.
