I bought the Hokusai shell for a DS Lite I got off eBay recently with a broken hinge, the tutorial they provide on YouTube is very comprehensive and easy to follow, a bit slow maybe if you're familiar with DSL reshelling already. They provide many spare bits like screws and springs/metal bars for the shoulder triggers, which I really appreciate, I assembled this with just the provided tools and there were no issues. It has a really nice feel too it and closes fairly nicely, couldn't get the screws in for the bottom assembly quite as nicely as I'd hope but this is common with aftermarket shells in my experience. Nevertheless it looks gorgeous and is a nice easy project if you take your time. Definitely tempted to buy other shells in the future, very impressed with extremeRate's work.

Not perfect, but definitely a highg quailty replacement case that will give you a bespoke finish to your DS. Not for the feint hearted, make sure you know what you are up against before you take the plunge!

Excellent quality and very easy to install if you follow the instructions. Once caveat that isn't mentioned in instructions but is a common issue is the shoulder buttons may not work properly, you have to snip part of the button off and then it'll sit flush and work no problem.

Let's start by saying that DS shelling isn't the easiest task but neither is it impossible. As anyone that's read or watched tutorials, the tricky part is manipulating the ribbon cable for the top screen. Also the springs for the shoulder buttons can be a nuisance, but other than that I managed to swap the shell on a broken DS (cracked hinge) with (eventual) success. Two points to note however. Based on comments I'd read about the supplied screws sometimes chewing up the plastic of the new shell, I kept some parts from my original DS. This includes all the screws, the shoulder button pins and springs, the metal surround for the GBA cartridge slot, and the barrel hinge. That said, all of the supplied parts look to be of a high quality. Some of the kits include extra buttons in different colours, allowing for different customisation options, but the Great Wave set just has white buttons throughout. The quality of the case is great. Every notch, hole, mount point and moulding matches the original perfectly. However there are a few things to be aware of. None are related to problems with the case, just a couple of gotchas. Firstly when snapping the bottom half together, make sure the volume slider on the motherboard is aligned with the slider on the case. I managed to break the soldered slider when I snapped the case together because of not checking. So I had to use another donor board. Also, connect up the lower screen (both ribbons) before fitting the bottom board. It's much easier than trying to connect the digitiser ribbon once everything is screwed down. After a bit of sweat and toil, I'm incredibly happy with how it's turned out!

Worst product ever i make a living building gaming pc and this was so hard to get it to fit that I ended up breaking my ds lite don't buy this product 😢 it's trash

It’s fine but it doesn’t feel good, it feels like cheep plastic and not as good as other 3rd party shells I’ve used in the past.

Excellent replacement shell! The quality is solid, the classic Game Boy design looks amazing, and it fit my DS Lite perfectly. It completely refreshed the look of my console and gave it a unique retro feel. Very happy with this purchase

followed the 55 minute guide to install this, power button doesnt fit quite right, and even thought I followed the instructions to make sure the power shell and power button were in the same place, on reassembly the button broke off the plastic power switch, so now I have a completely non functional DS Lite. Would avoid.

Ho acquistato questa scocca di ricambio per dare nuova vita al mio vecchio DS Lite e devo dire che sono rimasto davvero soddisfatto. La qualità della plastica è ottima: solida, resistente e con una finitura liscia che sembra quasi quella originale. I tagli sono precisi, quindi tutte le parti combaciano perfettamente, senza scricchiolii o giochi strani. Il kit è completo di tutto: cover superiore e inferiore, pulsanti, lente protettiva per lo schermo, stilo, viti e persino gli strumenti necessari per il montaggio. Non ho dovuto acquistare nulla a parte. I colori sono vividi e fedeli alle foto — io ho scelto una versione cangiante e l’effetto è spettacolare! Il montaggio richiede un po’ di pazienza, ma con il video guida ufficiale è stato tutto più semplice. Alla fine il mio DS Lite sembra appena uscito dalla scatola… anzi, meglio, perché ora è unico e personalizzato. Se vuoi rinnovare la tua console o darle un tocco personale, questa cover è un acquisto consigliatissimo. Rapporto qualità-prezzo eccellente e risultato finale che vale ogni minuto speso per l’installazione.
