Another hit in the McKettrick series
Okay, I admit it; I am a girl of the 60’s. So give me a hot pink VW and I am half way there. Throw in a rain storm, a stray hungry dog needing to be rescued at a truck stop and you got me. I also enjoy a story with humor sprinkled throughout and Pride has just the right amount.I enjoyed the McKittrick’s of Texas so was excited to read McKrittrick’s Pride. I didn’t bother to find out what order this series was published in because they can usually stand alone. However, I would recommend starting at the beginning for a little more background on each character.I enjoy LLM’s writing style. I also like a good western romance which she excels in. Our female lead Echo, was refreshing for me. Although hurt in the past she was not h--- bent on never letting a man near her again. She may not have been looking for a permanent relationship but was willing to admit her attraction Rance, our leading man, and go with it albeit for sex only.Rance tugged at the heart with the grief he was carrying for his deceased wife. I was a little surprised he had not found a way to start living again after five years until the secret came out. Now it all made sense. Guilt is a powerful thing. I felt bad for his children while he was working through all of this. Just goes to show money doesn’t fix everything. There was plenty of hot romance without it taking away from the rest of the story. All in all, I recommend this book to those who enjoy a hot western romance.

My favorite character is a lost dirty white dog...
I have just spent a wonderful day reading this amazing book. I've read where someone didn't like the history of the McKettrick clan that is given in this book but, me, I absolutely loved it beginning to end. Having picked up books at a used book story here in town several years ago, before Kindle days, I've read about the McKettrick family from Angus to the present day. Old Angus was an ornery guy but loved his sons, no matter what. This author wrote tremendous tales in Historical Western genre' and they are loved by hundreds and probably thousands of fans. Now we have the modern day family members that live on the same land and enjoy the privilege that was given to them over a hundred years ago. Rance McKettrick lives in one of the ancestors homes on the old ranch along with his two young daughters. He is a widower and works at the family corporation. Along comes a new gal in town, Echo Wells, who opens a new business. The storyline involves two young girls, Grandma, Echo and Rance in small-town, Arizona. I smiled while reading and loved every moment spent reading this book. Oh, how I love this McKettrick family.

Pages fell out! Crappy binding!
The book was awesome; I couldn’t put it down! I already ordered the third book in the series today. I don’t know why I didn’t order it the day I started book 2 so I didn’t have to wait! This was just as good, if not better, than the first. There were quite a few tear-jerker moments in this one too, so have tissues on-the-ready. I just wish thirty or so pages didn’t just fall out while reading them! Cheap cheap cheap glue. Ridiculous really.

Good, not great.
I picked this book up because every now and then I need to fuel my inner Marlborough Man fantasies, and I love a good contemporary western for that. I had not read the first book in the trilogy, or any of this author's other books. This book stands on its own, and I was not the least bit confused in getting caught up with who was who. Both characters were sympathetic, and there was a nice smattering of extended family members and a surprisingly good subplot involving a dog (and I am NOT an animal lover, but this storyline was actually quite important to illuminating the heroine's journey and character.)What I really didn't like was the COUNTLESS references to this author's earlier books.... She seems to have included a reference to at least 6 or 8 earlier couples.... people who had lived hundreds of years ago. Every time the current hero & heroine pass a school house, we get a reference to "that was where my great-great granddaddy built his bride a school" Or shop. Or house. Or swimming hole. It went on and on and on. I actually found it a little sad. I don't like to think of H&H's being long-dead, although the author solved this problem by suggesting that they were all ghosts and had been seen riding on the range or laughing in the bedrooms. Puleease. Maybe I would not have minded if I'd read all those books, but the references interferred with my ability to enjoy this story and seemed very contrived.Aside from that, it was a nice, average story...more about lust than love. The author did a terrific job exploring the hero's torment about his dead-wife and the emotional grappling he had to do to emerge from it. I especially liked the way the hero freely admits his initial attraction to Echo was just lust. The problem was that I never really saw any reason for that to evolve into love. At one point, the hero simply decides he loves her.... but I never really sensed any chemistry between them other than hot sex.

MCKETTRICK'S PRIDE
Enjoyable western romance, good characters, loved the dog. One glaring problem, Echo left in the middle of the night from Rance's ranch-without a car?

M cKettrick's Pride: A Second Chance
Loved the book. But then I always enjoy Linda Leal Miller's books about the Mc Kettrick's family. I especially enjoyed this one because of the dog, the pink cars, and the precious little girls. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.

This has been republished in the UK as Millionaire's Pride, which is £5.49 on Amazon, so if you haven't already read it, it is cheaper to buy this edition, which also doesn't have one of those cheesey covers typical of Mills & Boon. This is pure escapism, a contemporary romance with a western theme, not the same as the Linda Lael suspense series (Mojo, Look series, etc). As with all the books in the McKettrick series, there are a few sizzlingly steamy passages so maybe it's not the best if you are travelling on the tube or a plane with someone looking over your shoulder!Rance is widowed and has two little girls that spend most of their time with Rance's mother-in-law, Cora, while he travels the globe doing multi-million business deals for the McKettrick family company.Into his well ordered, but lonely life, arrives Echo, a lady with a penchant for pink - car, clothes, etc and her rescued, very pregnant dog. She opens a bookshop next to Cora's hairdressing salon, the Twirl & Curl. Rance doesn't like her but his two little daughters think she is wonderful. Well as you can imagine, chemistry is zinging between Rance and Echo and one thing leads to another....There's a nice twist for Cora as well, or maybe that is in the last book, in the trilogy McKettrick's Heart. McKettrick's Heart (McKettrick Cowboys Trilogy) This is the second in the contemporary McKettrick's cousins series, the first being McKettrick's Luck McKettrick's Luck Rance is descended from Rafe, Jesse from Jeb and Keegan from Kade McKettrick. There are also books covering a couple more cousins,Sierra Sierra's Homecoming (Silhouette Special Edition) and Meg The McKettrick Way (Silhouette Special Edition) There is a new series coming early 2009, The Montana Creeds which are kissing cousins to the McKettricks, having descended from old Angus McKettrick's elder brother. There are a whole McKettrick's Heart (McKettrick Cowboys Trilogy)McKettrick's Heart (McKettrick Cowboys Trilogy)McKettrick's LuckSierra's Homecoming (Silhouette Special Edition)The McKettrick Way (Silhouette Special Edition)McKettrick's Heart (McKettrick Cowboys Trilogy)
