Great product for what I what I needed in a pinch
This is probably not an intended use for the product, but I was at a crossroads when updating my basement bathroom: I needed to either switch my shower pan or coat it in a type of black water-friendly epoxy. I also had a situation where I had bare wood, PVC joints, and some cracks that needed to be sealed. Because of this and because I already had the surround tiled, I opted to try this product after quite a bit of research. Worst thing: I'm out $60 and move forward with changing out the pan.To prep, I cleaned all applicable surfaces extensively with bleach. Then I applied PVC primer on all the plastic surfaces. The product is thick, so taping off areas with painters tape worked very well for clean lines. I opted to use 90% isopropyl that I had around... I'm in Minnesota, and just about the only places I could find that had 99% were certain hardware stores if they carried epoxy type paint products, and they were at least in gallon sizes and expensive. You could probably order smaller/cheaper 99% isopropyl online along with this paint, but at the time I was taking on this project it wasn't really an option because of the pandemic. 90% worked fine for me, it probably would have been better to use 99% for better paint mixture and finish.Working with the product wasn't too bad. I made sure to work in batches using disposable cups, making about 8oz at a time. What I loved about this paint was that it had little to no odor; if anything it faintly smelled like ball point pen ink. The epoxy also didn't eat up any of my cheap foam brushes or rollers along the way. Clean up was also easy with the isopropyl. All these factors did not apply with other DIY epoxy kits I've tried, which was huge because I was working in a poorly ventilated bathroom and had pets that were sensitive to fumes.Drying time took a little longer than expected and the finish occasionally left bubbles of unset epoxy. I attribute this to not using better isopropyl and possibly having mix ratios slightly off. It actually worked in my favor because the product dries glossy and having texture from the bubbles was a good safety measure. Also because my situation called for black paint and was in low light, I had no problems with an inconsistent finish. If a perfect finish is desired, I don't think this paint would be capable of that nor is it really intended for that.I've been using the shower regularly with no complications for a few months. I've dropped things on it many times and it all still holds up. It also appears to have sealed my wood, gaps and cracks very well, preventing mildew from getting in. Even if the finish becomes compromised over time, I'll have no problem touching it up. I'm so glad I came across this!

Easy to apply
What you get from Amazon: 1 quart of epoxy paint; ½ quart of hardener; instruction sheet. There was no millimeter measuring tool described in the instruction sheet.Project description: apply Pond Armor to a swimming pool concrete waterslide which is 6ft curved width x 14ft length = 84 sq ft. First wire brushed the slide and did the acid wash suggested in the instruction. The helpful Pond Armor customer service guy suggested I start applying at 6 AM and that I have a heating device ready to make any bubbles disappear; I had a hair dryer (don’t scorch or burn the pond armor) but there were no bubbles so I didn’t have to use it. I started at 7:30 AM August 8th, 2020 when it was cloudy and 70 degrees in San Diego. It took me four small batches and 90 minutes to apply the first coat using one good quality three inch brush on our 84 sq ft water slide. I still had to pick out about twenty brush bristles that stuck to the pond armor. I used 2/3’rds of the 1½ quart package. At 10:30 AM 80 degrees and sunny, the first coat was almost completely dry and slightly tacky. The brush from the first coat was rock hard so I threw it away. So I started applying the second coat; working quickly I applied about 20 sq ft in 15 minutes and then my batch turned into a lumpy mess so I quit for the day. At this hotter temperature (80 degrees) it’s too hard to quickly brush on the pond armor. Because I didn’t apply a 2nd coat when the first coat was tacky due to the heat, next day I had to lightly use 60 grit sandpaper on the 1st coat, making it ready to accept the second coat.Day 3 it was cloudy at 7:15 AM; applied the final coat in three batches over 30 minutes. Application technique: this material is self leveling so you can brush side to side or top to bottom. My waterslide was too curved to use even a 4 inch flat squeegee. Overall: great product; very slippery.Items needed for applying pond armor:Six pairs of disposable blue gloves.16 oz container of Denatured alcohol or 70% or 90% isopropyl alcohol to mix with the hardener and the epoxy paint; also use it to clean off any stray pieces of epoxy paint.Six three-inch brushes; good quality so bristles do not come out of the brush and stick to the pond armor.Five used clean empty quart ice cream containers for mixing the alcohol, hardener, and epoxy.Six small measuring cups from laundry soap containers, with handles, no more than 2 inches wide to fit into the 3 inch wide quart container opening.Small trash can with plastic liner for used up gloves, brushes, paper towels, etc.

Use the alcohol to mix, makes the job infinitely easier. Finishes like glass, was perfect for my cold plunge freezer project. Highly recommended.

PRODOTTO OTTIMO / PREZZO (ATTUALMENTE) ASSURDO
