Patrick (US Limited Edition) [Blu-ray]

I'm a lifelong cinephile, and have seen almost 5,000 films. This one had so far eluded me. But when I saw the announcement about the 4K release, I read the synopsis, and thought it sounded intriguing. I ordered it, watched it as soon as it showed up, and I'm glad I took the chance. This one will go into my library.The film has a very unsettling, creeping sense of doom that is quite reminiscent of The Exorcist, arguably the film's largest influence. But the story is completely original and unique and not at all a rip off of that film, or any other. The director sets an excellent tone, while presenting this imaginative suspense film. I could definitely see the influence Hitchcock's work had on the film, as well. Loved the protagonist; loved Patrick. Overall, one of those films that gets under my skin in a good way.The restoration looks and sounds very good all things considered. This is a nearly 50 year old film that was low budget to begin with, and filmed in Australia during an upstart era in filmmaking over there. This restoration is really good given what they had to work with. It doesn't look like a Spielberg 4K film, but if your expectations are reasonable, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by this 4K UHD version. The packaging is pretty cool. I just wish the case were fully printed, and not with just an insert that wraps around the packaging. Reminds me of a steelbook in that regard, which is something some will love and others won't be thrilled with.
