Adorable story
I found this author on Instagram and am so glad I did! The story was adorable and well written, with lovely world building and delightful characters that all had their own depth and personality. I was pulled right into her world of magic, baking, and sweet, wholesome romance. I love the recipes included in the end. I can't wait to read the next one!

Really good cozy fantasy, found family, friendship, and FOOD
Very enjoyable, there’s a sweet love story, found family, and recipes at the back! It was a bit slow to take off, but around chapter 4 I was hooked, and finished it quickly.Lovely cozy fantasy!

This book was everything I needed.
Sat down for a cozy fantasy with good character development and mouthwatering food descriptions and got everything I desired and more. Read it in one sitting and would devour the second book if I had it!I loved so many aspects of this book:✨️Positive female friendships✨️Adorable adopted/Found family dynamics✨️Spectacular worldbuilding that was extensive and unique but not remotely overwhelming✨️Scrumdilyicious food/baking descriptions that weren't overwhelming but provided so much context, comfort, and mouthwatering delight✨️An amazingly satisfying redemption arc of a rude character✨️An adorable blush worthy romanceNot usually a fan of "fated mates" but I did like how it was handled in this book especially since it was more consensual than your typical "mate romance"Some of the writing at the beginning was a tad bit rough but the story moved well enough that I could ignore it, then forget about it as the writing improved.Anyone who loves slice of life, cozy high fantasy and baking should RUN to get this book.

Nice to curl up with
It was fine. I read it over a cold winter holiday while sipping coffee and eating warm cinnamon rolls, so reading about a baking contest was perfect. For the "cozy" rating, it gets probably 8 out of 10. However, the writing itself, I felt, was so-so. Here's why:1). There were a surprising number of grammar errors throughout the book. 2). The conflict in the book comes almost exclusively from the main character's low self-esteem. 3) Despite what the reader is led to believe, magic in the baking contest turns out not to be a major plot point at all.Nevertheless, there were some great moments, and I may pick up the second book in the series.

Absolutely adore
Y’all. I may have found my new favorite book. This book is the perfect cozy fantasy, crammed with excellent characters, full-hearted feeling, cute romance, and delicious baked goods. I was delighted at every turn of this story. Penner definitely knows and understands her craft well—the pacing and character growth were perfect. On top of that, it’s so cozy and sweet I wanted to blow through it in a single afternoon, but also wanted to pace myself so as to not get through it too fast. I left it feeling so happy and comforted, and desperately craving lemon bars. I adored the world and the characters, and I will be reading everything Ms. Penner puts out from now on.

Super cute
I loved this story. It was wonderful to watch as these characters had major character growth. Watching Arleta find her confidence and accepting love and friendship and family was riveting. All the bakes sound delicious too 😋

This was a great quick read, especially if you love baking competition shows. The characters were likeable, the story had a good pace, and moments of humor and levity were regularly interspersed.

Very Sweet
This was an absolutely delightful cosy fantasy. I loved the array of characters. I loved the development of Arleta. I was expecting at least one "as you wish" in there somewhere, but I'll get over it.

A sweet, frothy romp with great delight
This book is an utter delight, with recognisable themes from the Great British Bake Off and The Sewing Bee to add a cosy touch. Arleta's growth through the book is wonderful to watch and I just wanted her to succeed throughout. It brought a smile in every chapter and whilst I expected it to be a little corny, I found it wasn't and was swept away by the narrative and world in which it inhabits. Definitely recommend reading if you're looking for something 'nice' and 'cosy'. Can't wait for the next book by this author.
