Expert book for beginners , must have ! 5*

Superb!
As a heritage language learner, this is one of the best reference books out there for Tagalog. The only thing I wish to see in this book though is more examples of how certain words are used in sentences. Otherwise, this is an invaluable grammar book for Tagalog learners.

Très déçu, inutile
J'ai commandé cette grammaire pour pouvoir communiquer plus facilement avec mon amie philippine. Au départ j'étais conquis par l'exhaustivité du sommaire, le caractère clair et simple des explications, les nombreux exemples, etc. Mais à l'usage, je me suis rendu compte que la seule utilité de ce pavé est de caler un meuble. Mon amie s'est arraché les cheveux lorsque je lui montrais le contenu de l'ouvrage, tant il est éloigné de ce qu'est le vrai tagalog de la vie quotidienne. Ce n'est pas que tout est faux, mais c'est représentatif d'une langue que personne n'utilise, les règles régissant le tagalog usuel et actuel étant totalement différentes. Si votre objectif est de déchiffrer des textes académiques du siècle dernier cet ouvrage pourrait probablement aider, mais ça s'arrête là. De plus une version gratuite est disponible en ligne sur le site web des auteurs, testez-la et voyez par vous-même.

It seems comprehensive
It seems concise and comprehensive. I haven't had time to dive into it deeply, but I'm sure anyone with an appetite for Tagalog will get their kicks out of this book.

Total Comprehensive Grammar Book
Really love this book! A lot of work was put into this and it shows. The only thing I wasn't very satisfied with was the quality of the paper - it's on the thin side. It's almost too easy to crinkle and may not do well in some environments over time. However, I can't complain too much because there's nothing else like it out there. Very comprehensive and great reference material. So if you're looking for a grammar book to really cover everything then you would not be disappointed. There are examples for everything, so you can get a feel for the usages. I'd recommend also seeking out a good book with dialogue and audio for your studies. This however is a great reference and learning tool. Let's just hope they're listening and update it with better paper; because 45 USD is a lot. Totally worth it in knowledge though. Every student should have this.

Excellent Resource!
This is my "go to" Tagalog grammar resource. The explanations contained in the book are clear, concise and well-presented. The book has a wealth of examples to reinforce the explanations. It is obvious a great deal of painstaking work went into this worthy effort. Fortunately, Essential Tagalog Grammar is not meant for grammarians only. It is well-suited to novices as well as those who are already conversant in the language. My Tagalog "Big Three" are (1) this book, (2) Learning Tagalog: A Complete Course with Audio, Volume 1 (available on Amazon and created by the same folks who penned Essential Tagalog Grammar), and (3) a good dictionary: Tagalog-English/English-Tagalog Standard Dictionary: Pilipino-Inggles, Inggles-Pilipino Talahuluganang (Hippocrene Standard Dictionaries) (available on Amazon as well).
