A must for Ralph Lauren fans
A very enjoyable account of Ralph Lauren's career. I love his mixing of fabrics and styles. Inspiring for anyone interested in trying out his ideas. Also, he comes across as a really decent guy.

The book arrived, not only ripped, but with a page missing (I mean ripped out!) and an image cut out with a scalpel damaging even more pages of the book. I had ordered a new book. Won't do it again.

A Good Introduction.
Ralph Lauren is an American that I would call more of the ultimate stylist rather than a fashion designer. He heads a global multibillion-dollar fashion enterprise. As of January 2015, his wealth is estimated to be $8 billion, which makes Ralph Lauren the 155th richest person in the world. He briefly worked for Brooks Brothers as a sales assistant before leaving to become a salesman for a tie company. He left to establish his own tie company where he successfully sold his ties to small shops in New York, but his breakthrough was selling them to Neiman Marcus. In 1967, with the financial backing of clothing manufacturer Norman Hilton, Lauren opened his first store where he also sold ties of his own design, under the label "Polo".In 1970, he released a line of women's suits that were tailored in a classic men's style. In 1972 he unveiled his first Ralph Lauren collection for women. He was also contracted in 1974 to provide clothing for the Robert Redford, Mia Farrow movie The Great Gatsby. Of course since then he has dressed many 'A' list celebrities for red carpet events and for other films.By 2007 Ralph Lauren had over 35 boutiques in the United States alone, along with many others around the world.Lauren’s genius is for re- interpreting key elements of the past, from Navajo motifs to the preppie world of Hamptons' socialites, he has a visionary ability to capture the all-American and also European lifestyle in glamorous, easy-to-wear designs. He is the ultimate stylist in that he has taken and reinvented themes from the past making clothing of exceptional quality. The company has around eight separate labels at different price points from modest to eye wateringly expensive. The brand has also moved into the world of luxury fragrances, accessories and interior design.I feel this book gives a good overview of this ever expanding brand.
