Had another and it started to crack. Other than that it has held up pretty good. You might be able to just clean it out with a hose but to really get it clean we found you have to take it apart and the screws don't come out real easy. Still a nice feeder.

A well designed and solidly built niger feeder. I have tried many niger feeders over the years and this one is the best by far. It is sturdy, easy to fill, and most important, keeps the seed dry in all but the most intense rain. It is also easy to disassemble for cleaning, should that become necessary. Most important, the birds love it!

One of the best purchases I've made all year!Since I bought this house six years ago, I would see one pretty, bright yellow bird, and it would be gone. A friend told me what they were Goldfinches, and I could draw them in with the proper feeder. This was the recommended feeder on many sites, so I ordered it with a couple other types of feeders for random birds.I don't know why, maybe it's the popularity of the style, and the birds just.... know? I put it up late winter, with their favorite Nyjer seed, and by the time last spring came around, I have had large goldfinch flocks visit my yard twice a day and when a random birdie needs a snack.The other bird seed feeders I ordered needed to be replaced at the end of summer, but my goldfinch feeder has lasted and still looks near new. It is very easy to clean with a swish of soapy water, and it rinses completely clean. The birds love the perches, and I have had every perch full with goldfinches waiting on the side.I can guarantee this feeder is loved by goldfinches. I would recommend having reserves of Nyjer seed on hand, because they love it! And you will love having beautiful finches of all types to sit and watch. Happy feeding!

but for the money, I like these feeders and I've used them in the past, but don't expect them to last much more than a year, seasonally speaking for me, that would be about 9 or 10 months, as I pull most of my feeders in during the summer. They hold approximately 2lbs. of thistle seed and have 8 ports for the finches/nut hatches/black capped chickadees/tufted titmouse (they all feed from it). They always come to the new feeder within a day or two.A note about the bottom. One of the images clearly depicts the bottom part of the feeder being able to come off for easy cleaning, but pushing two buttons on either side of the feeder, letting the bottom pop right off. The ones I ordered in the past had this feature, which I really liked. The two I received have screws; certainly not nearly as easy to come off for cleaning. I contacted Amazon and they are supposedly going to fix the description/pictures accordingly.No, this isn't squirrel proof (some people left lousy reviews because of this). It's plastic. If a squirrel wants what's in it, he's going to get it! My squirrels, never want thistle (my black oil sunflower seed feeders, though, are a different story!). The plastic is actually thicker, and more sturdy, than I remember the previous feeders being. Maybe these will last even a little bit longer. I really like them and, for the price, I think they are a good buy.

This feeder is very easy to fill and the perches are easy for the finches to access. I always have several finches at this feeder. I liked it so much that I bought a second one.

We replaced our old thistle feeder with this one and the finches love it. The top slides up and over so it's easy to fill. Great feeder.

Picture of feeder clearly shows an easily opened bottom by pushing two buttons to remove for cleaning.The actual feeder requires you to remove two screws to get the bottom off.Very disappointing.

The finches love this feeder. We have had tons of gold finches which we absolutely love. Easy to fill and clean.

It will accommodate many birds.

As long as it is filled with the right mixture, this works very well for finches. The only problem is that as the birds eat the seed, the level decreases. Thus there is no way birds can feed at all the openings.

Package arrived on-time and in good condition. The feeder is a little smaller than I anticipated, but it's quite functional. The birds are already coming to it after a couple days. Handles 8 gold finches without a problem.
