Greek Mythology Reading Cards

Good, but many flaws with few positives.
I am giving this Oracle set five stars based on the art alone, but if I'm being honest, I'm not entirely sure it deserves it.If you are familiar with any of Doreen Virtue's oracle card decks, this deck is almost identical to hers in quality. The card stock of the cards is playing card quality, making them easy to shuffle but also easy to bend or otherwise damage. The interpretation booklet is pretty eh, with downright incorrect ideas about the Gods, like that "Artemis is the goddess of sunlight reflected on water" (you can read the whole description in the product listing as of now). I spoke with a former devotee of Artemis' and even she had never heard that idea about Artemis before. Personally, I find the guide booklets worthless in Doreen Virtue's deck, and honestly, the booklet for this set isn't too far off from what I've read. At least the author's intended meanings of the cards can, for the most part, be applied to our lives, unlike Doreen's which are totally random and overall have little divination value or meaning. But, if Doreen's work resonates with you, then this deck may as well. For me, I'll be creating my own meanings to go with the cards as I work with them. For me, what drew me to this set of cards was the artwork. There are other card decks out there featuring the Greek Gods. However, the art is not authentic as it's more celtic/medieval inspired or too futuristic, new age-y inspired. The art on these cards is absolutely beautiful and photos of them don't quite do them justice when you have them in your hand. All in all the deck is beautiful and functional. I'm going to spend the next week or so cleaning and charging them, and I may come back to this review and update it for the accuracy of the cards in readings once I start working with them. But even if I don't like doing readings with these cards, I will be using them as Icons for deities I do not have a statue for, or for deities they don't make statues of.As of now, I gave the set 5 stars for the art alone. If I were being honest I'd probably give it 3 stars due to the quality. For me, I like thicker, more durable cards. I want something built to last. But for this price I feel I got what I paid for at least. The guide book I would give 2 stars. Not totally useless but not great. And I strongly question the accuracy of the information presented. Take anything you read in here with a huge grain of salt. As a practicing Hellenic Polytheist I just found so many things wrong with it. But someone who hasn't studied Greek religion at all will enjoy it. Just don't put too much stock in the integrity of the information.Lastly, I feel I should mention that this deck is very much a "Greek Mythology" deck. It's not just Gods and Goddesses, there are several heroes, anti-heroes and monsters or concepts from Greek Mythology as well. There are the Olympians, Protogenoi, Titans, Heroes, Monsters, anti-heroes and mythical concepts. If Greek mythology is your thing, I would recommend this set. Not emphatically. But I'd recommend it. Keep in mind the quality you can expect and you likely won't be disappointed, as over all it's nicely composed. But many flaws come along with the positives.

Great art work
And the cardstock is thin but not easily damaged. The closest comparison is playing card like, although these cards are bigger. Admittedly, I did not buy this oracle to use it with the guide book. I have been studying the Greek Pantheon for almost thirty years and was just so excited to get a deck that had representations of the Gods and Goddesses. I will read through it, but this is just an FYI that my review does not include the book so I do not know, yet, if there are inaccuracies like the first reviewer posted.I love the card images and the size of the cards. My only big disappointment is that there is no card for Hecate, my matron Goddess. What? How could you have a deck based on the Greek pantheon without her?! But still, all my other favorites are included. These would be perfect to put on your altar and that is probably how they will get the most use here.

Good information but not enough
This is a wonderful deck to familiarize yourself with the Greek Pantheon. For someone new to mythology reading through this book and the accompanying cards is a good grounding in the Greek Deities of antiquity. The instructions for using this deck as an oracle deck are limited and presume that you are familiar with other oracle decks or tarot for the methodology. The artwork is digitally altered versions of classical paintings. Some will find this reprehensible. For me it is just too busy, especially the cards that show groups of people. One minor thing that would help future editions is to add a page or two relating the Greek Gods to the Roman Gods--usually just a name change--and then to astrology.

its ok but........
Great images but the guidebook lack information. I love greek mythology there for its missing certain key members of the original mythology and other heroes. The guidebook can be better with messages relating to peoples lives, current situations, past lives and other situations people may be dealing with.

Would repurchase
Good card stock. Do your research and really learn the stories attached to the cards to really understand the full meaning of their messages.

Beautiful but seems to be poorly made.
Really beautiful deck, unfortunately a few cards have damage on the back where they are missing some of the design and starting to peel. I just received them yesterday.Still lovely but I’m a bit worried that they won’t hold up to much use.

Not my fave, but still good
Honestly, the guide book is so simple that it leads to me going to the deck somewhat infrequently . But it does have good energy .

A good learning tool!
This deck is a great learning tool. It always has something interesting and relevant to say. Its fairly good card stock. A little on the thin side but its very easy to handle and shuffle. They are fairly glossy. The guidebook is good, but there are no spread examples as we would normally find in a ‘little white book’. But each card has a few paragraphs of information and a reference for the artwork on the card. Each card has an image, title and a one or two word explanation at the bottom. The backs are ok. Not my favourite colour choice but its all very cohesive and works well together.I’ve had this deck for a little over a week now and already done a few interesting readings with this deck. Its very well balanced and can be used for both light and shadow work. It comes across as very honest, but is nice with how it approaches difficult issues because every card is framed in the context of greek mythology and so its not the most direct deck.

Fantastic!
The illustrations were above and beyond my expectations, however I do agree with some other buyers that some descriptive information about the meaning of each card would have been better on each card rather than have to keep referring to the handbook. These cards are still a great buy though - quality is amazing and a wonderful addition to anyone's collection.

Excellent Cards
Alison, I adore your cards. They are amazing, I use them everyday and they have always been incredibly accurate. They have a very special feel about them and resonate really well with me. I couldn't wait for them to arrive and now I know why. You and Richard have produced very special cards. Thank you. xxxx
