This tool is perfect for English as a Second Language students, and/or bilingual students.Great features.Our son has gained so much independence, confidence and speed in learning and improving his English. This device has made a huge and immediate difference in his progress.Easy to scan books and texts, translation is immediate, saves time and has really made learning fun. He loves the text to speech feature for when he needs extra help. Totally simple to use, portable and fast. This tool was not only good for him as an English learner, but also been great for our older children whom are learning additional new languages in School.Highly recommend for all new language learners of any age.

The scanner works pretty well as a translator for printed materials IF it is translating into a language that's embedded in the unit. It also has the ability to translate languages that aren't embedded (theoretically) when connected via bluetooth to an internet connection. I say "theoretically" because although I was able to pair and connect the translator to my internet connection, each time I tried to use the translator in that way I got a "time out" message so I've never been able to use it to translate any of the online only languages. My only other issue with it is that you have to know what language is being used for it to be able to translate. For example, I received some goods that came with instructions written in an unknown language but I could not use the translator because I couldn't discern the native language of the words. I tried several different alternatives that I thought could be the language but it resulted in gibberish. When you know the language you're attempting to translate and it happens to be a language that is embedded in the unit, it works extremely well. Otherwise, it definitely has limitations.

Bought to help with dyslexia. I thought this read out loud as you scanned each word, but it scans a line at a time and then reads out loud. My 10 year old used for a week at school and decided it was to hard to use.
