Souk: Feasting at the Mezze Table

Souk is worth adding to your collection
Souk is a lovely Middle East cookbook with beautiful photos of the typical dishes. I am happy to add it to my international cookbook collection. If I didn't have so many other Middle East cookbooks, I would have given it a 5 rating, but the recipes are your basic recipes that you find in any other Middle East cookbook.

Beautiful, approachable mezze
Really wonderful cookbook. Recipes are clear and simple, and exploring the flavors of Turkish cuisine with an expert guide is wonderful. So far, favorites are the oven roasted dates and halloumi, shish taok, turmeric lentil soup, and sesame date cookies. Looking forward to cooking more from this book.

Beautiful book
I'll make a few of the recipes, not exactly what I was hoping for.

Amazing Collection of Middle Eastern Dishes Easy to Make in the Home Kitchen!
This cookbook is full of fun, colorful, flavorful recipes for Middle Eastern food. The recipes are clearly written with easy instructions and pages and pages full of colorful photographs of the food and people enjoying it. The book divides the mezze - small bites akin to tapas but much more - recipes into Cold Mezze, Warm Mezze, Grilled Food and After Dinner (desserts and warm drinks). There are also chapters about stocking the pantry and interesting drinks. The prose is friendly and explanatory, with suggestions as to where to obtain some of the ingredients, such as in a Turkish market. This is a fabulous cookbook, especially for summer!

This is a wonderfully visible blast of colour
This is a wonderfully visible blast of colour, and a huge temptation to COOK. I LIVE THIS BOOK, AND I HAVE OVER A THOUSAND.. it’s in my kitchen, not on a shelf. Well done.

Great meze food
Being a fan of middle eastern flavours, I already had many of the ingredients required to make the recipes in this book. The stuffed vine leaves and chicken kebabs were particularly successful and the hummus was well worth making from scratch. I particularly liked the addition of parsley. The pomegranate lemonade was not so nice so I’ll try making the oregano lemonade next time.

A useless but very pretty book
I am a enthusiastic cook and a great love of oriental food. Mezze is my ideal for a wonderful meal--just Mezze and a good bread and a glass of wine--hoorah! (Tapas, Antipasti, Antijitos, Dim Sum, Appetizers etc--all equally appealing. So I was a pushover for the ads for this book, and ordered it recklessly over internet, instead of going to take a look at the book store, which I usually do. What a disappointment! No new recipes, nothing to learn, just a bookful of laughing, smiling, thoughtful pictures of the two pretty authors in various charming poses. But Im not lesbian, so it did't turn me on.
