They are just in one layer of plastic. You should wear long sleeves, gloves, and a respirator to handle these. They have glass fibers like the pink insulation and you will itch for days if you forget. They aren’t good for you to breathe them in either.Installation/setup: Use to line your forge, furnace, or kiln for fire proofing. I also recommend using a rigidizer for ceramic fiber be used once it’s in place. It makes usage safer and keeps it from shedding more fiber.Final thoughts: These are not for the same uses as regular insulation. These are to keep your heat in without catching on fire lol. I plan to use them along with some others to construct a raku kiln. It’s used to fire pottery in a special way and then allows them to be stained with ash and smoke. It’s a beautiful process and I can’t wait. I was glad when I happened up these ceramic fiber insulation blankets. I would never have thought to search for them as fireproof insulation and the uses in description. Why you ask? My only experience with these fiber blankets is for slower cooling with glasswork/lampwork beads, ornaments, etc. A cardboard box lined with this material makes for a slower (than out in the air) cooling and helps prevent cracking (when a kiln is not available). For lampwork cooling use after a while they end up needing to be replaced. These are great replacements. Yay! If the blankets were not moved around I can see them being perfect for like ever.

These two fiber blankets came tightly rolled up together inside a plastic bag. I'm going to leave them that way until I'm ready to use them because they're well protected this way and I know I'd never get them back in the bag after removing them. I did open the end of the bag to examine the material and verify its thickness. I plan to use these for insulating glass cane as it is pulled from a Vitragraph kiln so it will be able to cool slowly without fracturing. They would also be useful for glass torch workers who want to similarly insulate beads or other torch-worked items while they cool.

I think the term blanket is confusing to people, this is like kaowool and is not woven, it's more like loose wool or a roll of insulation and is delicate. It is a little more crunchy than other kaowool I've worked with but should work the same. Always wear a dust mask when building any product like this, one it's in place and not making particulate you are good.

This is 2 pieces of 24 x 12 x 1 inches of Ceramic fireproof insulation as described. It is meant to insulate metal against heat up to 2600 Degrees F. It can be used any where I feel that requires being exposed to high heat. I ordered this as fire proofing for that purpose as my oven wall insulation. I am very happy with the quality and quantity of this product. It works perfectly. I I give this product 5 stars for quality, quantity, variety of purpose, as described and a good value for the price.
