CD reissue of Kottke's 1972 album, one of his most popular releases and a firm fan favorite. Greenhouse is a transitional album for Leo, who still retains hints of his mentor, John Fahey, but is also allowing his own style to inhabit much of his playing. 11 tracks. BGO.

The Best!
I have always liked this album but I lost the CD. I ordered this and it’s perfect. Took longer to get to me in the US from the UK but it was worth the wait.

Greenhouse still growing beautifully
I have a special affection for this album, as it was my introduction to Leo Kottke. And while that obviously colors my review somewhat, this was & still is a wonderful album, period. As previous reviewers have noted, it's not just a matter of technical skill (although that's quite impressive in itself), but his warmth & humor in playing: you get a real sense of the man, not just a musician but as a person. He's always been quite disparaging about his voice, but I like it, it's honest & comfortable & welcoming. This was a good part of my youth; decades later, it's a good part of my life. Most highly recommended!

Since the 70's
My brother had Greenhouse on a cassette tape. He gave it to me. It may have been the very first tape that was all mine and I didn't have to share. I played it so much I knew where to go on the counter to get to my favorites. Once, I sang Lucille to a car full of my mom's friends. I was about 14? That did not go well. I played air guitar along with Kottke for months. I have seen him lately on YouTube and have not been disappointed in the music. When this CD came, I literally ran to my brother to show him. This is just great guitar work and hard to imagine it's not sampled/enhanced/digitized or otherwise manipulated other than by Kottke's 10 talented fingers.

What a monster guitar.
I have been a fan of Kottke since the 70’s. It was time to update my music collection with 6 and 12 String Guitars. I guess that dates me, eh!

My favorite Kottke
Perhaps there's some sentimentality due to the time period, but this is my favorite Leo Kottke album. I really enjoy the vocal tracks too. As a matter of fact, I like them very much. There is a warmth and sincerity in Leo's vocal style, and the vocal song selections are perfectly suited.Of course, Leo's guitar work is fascinating - a mixture of folk, jazz and other Genres, it is, at once, both dynamic and soothing. Played masterfully."Everywhere I keep my silence, no sound returns to me" (from "Tiny Island")

Not actually remastered. Reissued.
This is the 1990 disc issued in that year. It has never been touched in studio outside of that. With that being known the dynamic range is very high though the recording is quality is okay to good/great with minor hiss. The material on this Kottke release is some of his best and it is worth the buy. I just wish they had actually remastered this stuff.

Leo Kottke: "Greenhouse"
I was told that this was his next CD after the Armadillo, but i'm not sure of this.At any rate, it's very good. There were three instrumentals i'd not heard and they're very good; I like "The Spanish Entomologist"-which has Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" in it-and the final track, "Lost John". He's up-to-speed on the 12-string, which is why I buy him;also noticeable amounts of rapid-fire harmonics, which had to have taken years of practice to achieve (I've played 12-string since 1964).

Greenhouse by Leo Kottke is a truly wonderful piece of music
This like most original pieces of Leo's music stands up to the scrutiny of any critic. He does a great job through the entire disc with both instrumental and Vocal cuts. Greenhouse is a wonderful disc and I shall be spending a great deal of time with it over the near future listening for all the great work he put into this original music..This is a reprint from BGO records and they always do a great job of representing the songs and music in a good way...This is a really great disc for those who love folk music

Not as good as to me as Jorma Kaukanen's "Quah"
Interesting. Not as good as to me as Jorma Kaukanen's "Quah". But still really good. If you enjoy this type of music.I didn't like every song, but didn't dislike any . It's a case of to each his or her own.Great guitar player, some pretty good songs.Again you have to like this kind of music.I do.Always looking for something different.
