The Supreme Identity Hardcover – Illustrated, November 21, 2014

_The Supreme Identity_ is one of the more important among the earlier works by Alan Watts. It engages the reader with a rigorous theological discussion which is thought provoking yet mentally taxing. At times he lapses into hair-splitting minutae in examining theological issues, and the result is what the author himself admitted was a "sometimes tortuous argument". However, I would still recommend this one to anyone who wants to go right after the meat of Alan Watts' theology, or for those who wish read stuff from his earlier Christian stage as opposed to his later works, when he dealt almost exclusively with Eastern religion. Before you read this one, I would strongly suggest you read _Behold the Spirit_, which is more readable but just as profound as _The Supreme Identity_.

I like the author

I carry this book everywhere. I find myself re-reading chapters, truly a book to read if your interested in the Infinite and finite. Or if your curious about the relation between Christian religion and eastern culture(Taoist, Buddhism, Hinduism). Being brought up a christian, it is refreshing to read this book. I now am doing my own research on The buddha, Krishna, and other cultures. At the same time, it's like I'm finding myself. Not all who wander are lost.

Alan watts, what can I say, read it for yourself, before you can like it, hate it, denounce it, or proclaim it, read it. it is vibrant, it is relative, it is the work of a brilliant mind. But if you fear an honest cogent book, then perhaps you stay away from books that may expand your understanding of the divine within everything.

It is legible, but not good for evening reading.

An excellent book on oriental metaphysics. Persons that are not quite familiar with the subject will have a difficult time grasping what Alan Watts is trying to express.
