Oud Faten Attar. Very potent and a glorious smell.
I have a background in aromatherapy, and some very brief training in perfumery and I have mixed a lot of fragrances for myself over the years. This fragrance oil is POTENT! And it’s glorious. It’s such a nuanced blend, I can’t even begin topick out the different notes.Given the tiny (6ml) bottle and the glass dauber, and the potency of the oil, it would be easy to over do it and end up with a headache inducing amount of fragrance (and go through the bottle quickly), so I decided to make this into an eau de toilette.I mixed the 6ml bottle into 50ml of pure perfumers alcohol, so just over a eau de toilette strength dilution. It’s still more potent than any other perfume I have. I’d say this is most certainly a unisex fragrance and so will be fighting with my husband over who gets to use it, as he also thinks that it’s one of the nicest fragrances he’s smelled. The little bottle is very pretty so I’ll be repurposing that for something. The box it came in also makes it gift-worthy, although sadly I won’t be keeping the box - these just isn’t the room to hold on to packaging.I do think that this is rather pricey for 6ml of perfume oil, even if it is 100% pure, but the brand is pricey in general and known for quality fragrances.

Long lasting and pleasant scent, without being overpowering
I typically use more Western style colognes and like to switch things up now and then, so decided to try out this perfume oil. When it arrived I noted how small the bottle was compared to a spray cologne. It is a very heavy glass bottle with a metal top and a glass application rod.The scent from the bottle was very muted, and it wasn't until I placed a small amount on my wrists that it came to life. I suspect body heat helps release the scents from the oil.I found that it took about 20 minutes or so for the overall scent to settle down into what it would be for the remainder of the day. It is a very nice, subdued musky scent that remains in the background without overpowering the person wearing it or anyone around them.I found myself really liking the overall effect and will definitely be placing this into my collection of other colognes. The small size of the bottle makes it perfect for travel as well.If I had any negative, it is that the packaging is much larger than it needs to be. When I opened the box, the bottle looked very small.

Oud concentrated perfume
This scent comes in a lovely cardboard box which opens like a coffret and has a magnetic front flap. It also has a transparent plastic cover that wraps around most of the box. As soon as I took that off I smelt the scent which is really strong. There are geometric Arabic shapes either side of the box on a light background to contrast with the dark green of the rest of the box. There is a gold line and branding on the front and Arabic lettering in spot UV varnish. There is some general blurb (ie brand’s heritage) in gold on the reverse of the ‘lid’ when the box is open. It seems as if some of the scent spilled onto the reverse of the lid as it looks wet/greasy. The inside of the box is covered with a black fabric that feels a bit like velours and has the middle section cut out so that the bottle fits neatly inside it. The bottle has an octagonal shape and metallic base and screw on top (the latter having some delicate geometric Arabic design in filigree). This gives the bottle some weight; it doesn’t feel flimsy at all. The bottle hasn’t got a spraying nozzle but you dab the scent with a glass wand built into the screw on top. Info on the back of the box says that contents have been made in India and should be used within 60 months of opening. Furthermore ingredients (concentrated perfume oil, parfum concentre) haven’t been tested on animals and are 100% vegan. The scent is intense and long lasting with warm and smoky/musky notes, tinges of dampened wood.

Strong opening, but the dry-down is rich, luxurious, and long-lasting.
It comes in a beautiful packaging, perfect for a gift. The bottle itself is very nice and heavy, the cap is particularly intricate and beautiful.I meant for this to be my introduction to oud fragrances, as oud was listed in both the notes and the base notes so I figured it was probably a good way to really get a sense of what that means. It doesn't smell like how oud was described to me -animalic and leathery- but maybe I had the wrong expectations.I've found the opening quite sharp, it's citrusy but also a little mediciny, almost like camphor, even though it's not listed in the notes at all. Perhaps it's the musk that's very potent in the opening, or maybe that's part of the oud? After 15 minutes or so this sharpness starts to clear up and begins to reveal the more woody and floral notes. The sandalwood brings an almost smoky element, and the camphor-like smell quickly turns into a much more approachable musk. After an hour it dries down the a rich, woody, spicy smell. The floral notes blend into the wood notes in a way that reminds me of incense, but dark and smooth, not powdery. This then lasts for at least 6 hours, and that was only with one tiny dab on my wrist, so it can probably last longer. I haven't tried it on clothes. It survived a shower.Keep in mind that while I have a hobbyist's interest in fragrances, I'm definitely no expert. All in all it's an interesting smell and I think it's well-made. To me it smells like it's meant for a special occasion where you dress up and eat well, especially the first two hours. In terms of actually wearing it myself, I'm not yet sure I can pull it off with my casual North-American style. Not that it's overpowering or anything, but it smells formal. So far I've worn it only around the house, I do enjoy smelling it for its own sake.
