The Blues Brothers Double Feature (The Blues Brothers / Blues Brothers 2000) [DVD]

I hadn't seen these in years. They are both so much fun. I bought a set for my sister's birthday also.

Two movies on one disc means they are a little more compressed than usual. It's better than VHS, but it's not a great example of what DVD can be. I may still get the Blu-Ray version, which has no trouble holding that much, or the special edition of the original movie, with its many deleted scenes. This edition has no extras at all, just two movies as seen in theatres.Still, it's not actually as bad as I feared, as I have seen far worse encoding jobs. There's no distraction from the movie (first, anyway) except at one point -- the effect of the sunbeam hitting Jake in church -- and I now can't remember how good or bad that looked originally. BB was, of course, a 5-star movie and I ultimately decided that at its price, roughly equal to renting each movie just once on Prime, the DVD's limitations shouldn't drag its rating down from there.

The only problem you have with this dvd it's a double-sided film on one dvd. & whenever you try stopping it & replaying it. It really takes forever to get the dvd to replay where you stopped it. But you have both Blues Brothers films on one disc.

Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000 is about the music not so much the story. 2000 is a copy of the original with the same plot: "We're getting the band back together;" pointless car chases and crashes of police cars. But the music in both and particularly in 2000 is great if you love the music of the last half of the 20th Century. Great R&B, Blues, Soul, Rock 'n' Roll. In 2000 the Blues Bros. Band plays a battle of the bands in a voodoo priestess house deep in the bayous of Louisiana. The other band is fronted by the late B.B. King. Other band members: Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Clarence Clemmons, Jimmie Vaughn (Stevie Rays bro.), Isaac Hayes, Koko Taylor, et al. Aretha Franklin appears in both movies. The great Queen of Soul. The music is so much better than today's lame groups with no 'soul.' Enjoy the flicks for the music and a little humor.

The more modern one is good but not quite as good as the old one. Both very funny though.
