These SC1 key blanks are described as “copper structures” but appear to be the same as every other nickel plated brass key blank I have used over the years. Of course, copper is one ingredient in brass, so I suppose it is okay to mention copper structure, but every locksmith I have ever known would call it a nickel plated brass key blank because it has a thin shiny silver coating over the brass core. The description also says, “Kwikset(SC1)” which is incorrect. SC1 is a Schlage C keyway and KW1 is a Kwikset standard keyway, based on the Curtis key blank numbering system. The blanks I ordered were SC1 and indeed were Schlage C keyway, not Kwikset. Putting the poor description aside, these key blanks look fine and fit properly into a Pro-Lok Schlage blue punch for accurate code cutting and they fit correctly into a Schlage C cylinder keyway. As with almost all plated key blanks, if you clean your cuts with a wire wheel some of the silver nickel plating will flake off near the cuts. I noticed a tiny flake of plating came off when I used the blue punch to cut the key in the photo. You can see the largest flake on my finger if you look closely. These don’t flake any worse or less than typical nickel plated blanks and flaking is virtually invisible to the naked eye. Overall, these are a decent key blank at a good price.
