The Japanese found that the similar pH levels in konjac & human skin made the root powder an excellent material to help beautify skin. Healthy human skin has a pH level of about 5. Things like air-quality, make-up, diet etc. can cause the skin’s pH levels to rise. Skin with a raised pH may look dull & dehydrated; it may also be less resistant to sun damage & breakouts.pH balanced skin tends to be firm, healthy & blemish-free. It is thought that the skin’s pH level can be re-balanced by using a sponge with a comparable pH level. We suspect that Konjac is one of the key “beauty secrets” Asian women have enjoyed for centuries.Information About ManufacturingA typical konjac sponge is colored with 3% or less plant material/charcoal. Our unscientific testing has found that this amount is too small to have any noticeable impact on skin. In other words, all sponges offer the same benefits regardless of color. We recommend choosing the colors & shapes you like; they are all equally wonderful.Unfortunately, the use of synthetic materials in Konjac sponges is becoming common. Some manufacturers add synthetic coloring for brighter colors & others add plasticizers so the dry sponges appear larger & smoother. Synthetic additives can be unsafe & destroy the konjac. Be sure you only purchase sponges from reputable sellers.
