Finally! An excellent addition!
I thoroughly bashed book 4 in my last review. Everything from the editing (which was non-existent) to the story arc. In my mind book 4 took the series and flushed it down the loo. I hated everything about it – especially Benjamin’s behavior. This book, however, is easily the best of the series. Benjamin has his head screwed back on, his ‘threats’, by and large, are done as jokes (and received a jokes), his fighting skills are demonstrably better than any other book and there is depth to this story! Some things in the book still lack mature reason, but they are few and far between. Some characters, who should be in this book are still absent (like Taz’s bodyguards, who should have come out with the other ships), and I find that annoying, but I can live with it. It will be interesting to see how the author explains what became of them, if he does. I hope he does. I’m not going to give away any spoilers in this review. BUY THE BOOK! It’s worth the bucks mainly because it is well written and events make sense in this one. Mostly. I would have liked to have seen a little more explaining the Kax (I’m a lazy bugger – didn’t feel like spelling the entire name) Emperor’s mindset near the end. This book also explains some things going back to book 2, such as the nanites Taz injected into Benjamin, and does it fairly well. Anyway, great addition to the series. Definitely worth the read!

This book is a step backward
Still a fan, but this was my least favorite of the series. The politics in this one, just didn't seem realistic no matter how much I tried to suspend my disbelief. Too much in fighting with Ben's allies. At this point really its just beyond ridiculous for his allies to fight him, unless they are suicidal. Aisling has disappeared as a real character and was just a backdrop to move some plot lines along. The interaction between the queen and Ben honestly at this point is just beyond ridiculous. I didn't find most of the battles in this book to be very compelling compared to the others and most of the characters came off as cartoonish. Mind you I still give this 4 stars, but barely, and only because of how much I've enjoyed the series.I found the ending to be very frustrating. Not so much because it was a cliffhanger, but rather there was just no sense of this book having much resolution. I didn't like the device the author used to show folks looking for Reaper at the end either. Honestly, it felt like some of this story was thrown together. I have to say I'm a bit less excited now to continue, I will give it a go for one more book. If it's like this one, perhaps Ill just consider the series over at Empires at War book1, which I did enjoy. I hope the author reconsiders how the second half of this book played out and how often he uses insane situations that are so beyond what is believable even for THIS type of series which is the definition of OVER THE TOP.

Where is the next?!
I have been looking forward to continue the series. The continuation is overdue since 2018!I have just reread the five books in under a week. Gotten hooked again and now what? This is excellent entertainment. Do not stop! The Reaper still has to conquer at least ine empire or more coming back after slaying whatever needs slaying.

So Good, Right Up Until the End
This was a good continuation of the Reaper series, much improved in many ways in regards to the previous book that alternated between being aggravating and depressing. This installment of Benjamin Jamison was a lot like watching all 86 episodes of the Sopranos to have the entire story arc reduced to a cut to black with the last scene. Not terribly satisfying, nor much for resolution. Benjamin is finally a much more interesting character in this book, he's coming to accepting his fate, especially in regards to Taz; and his decision making reflects his realization that nothing will be the way he wants. He again shows the resilience and adaptability that were his hallmarks in the earlier books. Everything was building to a major decision point and major change to this story's arc, and then the rug was ripped out from under him; and we were left with nothing to go on. The problem with this is that the next book won't be available for another year, and that bites.

I've enjoyed most of this series, but!
Reaper had been a favored character and a good read,BUTThis book was the Reaper with twists, turns , falls, backtracking, etc.Lost in the writing, trying to go to many places and cover to much confusing ground.Ever read a book in a series and then known that series should have ended one or two books ago? What a disappointment from the rest of the series!2.5 stars!

Not too sure
I was eagerly awaiting part 2 but like a couple of reviewers was somewhat disappointed with what's become of the Reaper. Don't get me wrong, throughout Books 1-3 Reaper is one kickass dude & is a favourite amongst other galactic faring, armour wearing & shoot 'em characters (e.g., Omega Force's Burke) but recently it seems his "mental" issue(s) has become more the story than any other.Maybe I'm wrong but just wasn't satisfied (if that makes sense) with this recent addition. I not giving up though, as I've thoroughly enjoyed the ride and I'm looking forward to see what's become of the Reaper & co. in the next instalment.
