Perfect!
My one cat loves to fish out toys. We had another one like this that was a triangle, but it was made of cardboard and didn’t last. This one I can fill with lots of toys, and she has fun pulling them out as she feels like it.

CAT HEAVEN!
Received this item yesterday, my cat has not stopped playing with it, is infatuated with the hide and seek/ peek and play concept. She takes the balls that came with it and the pack of bat around fur balls I also ordered out with great gusto, I then put them back in and we spent a good deal of the evening doing this, finally I smarted up and put every small cat toy she owns in it along with cat kibble, this kept her busy till bed time at which time I put the toy away and felt kind of guilty as she sat and kept looking at the closet I put it in! I would buy this toy and the little bat around fur balls again, in fact considering ordering duplicates should something go wrong with either but I doubt it will, the construction is great, really love these two items, almost as much as CC the cat!CC is a little 2 legged cat and relishes this item as she can pick the balls out easily from the top or sides. Can't describe to you how much she loves it!

MEDIOCRE
My 18-month old indoor cat is in dire need of "mental stimulation". I'd read the positive reviews and looked forward to the SmartCat 3841 Peek-and-Play Pet Toy Box providing her with hours of challenging entertainment. It didn't. I gathered a few of her favorite toys and ordered several new ones (to add a little excitement to the mix) . . no go - she had every toy removed in less than 90 seconds and, once done, she simply wasn't interested. I removed the new toys from the mix - thinking it was the toys she didn't like - and added several of her favorite treats - nope. I took the old toys out, put the new toys back in along with her treats - no way. It appears that this purchase boils down to twenty dollars spent for naught - those dollars aren't easy to come by when you're a low-income senior. I'll leave the box out and hope for the best! I also need to address quality control - or the lack thereof, on this product. The Peek-and-Play Pet Toy Box is advertised as solid wood . . well, it appears to be solid 1/4-inch particle board that has been varnished on the outside surfaces. It IS sturdy (as advertised), no wiggly parts and the holes are flared slightly inward to assure a smooth entry for the cat's paw(s). I don't know if the box I got was simply missed by the Quality Control Department or if all of them are shipped the way mine arrived. I always check a new toy over for "issues" before giving it to my cat. On the inside of the box, the particle board is not varnished and the unfinished holes (17 of them) were rough around the edges - many of the holes had small pieces of raw wood missing so they were VERY rough. I didn't have sandpaper on hand so, before I gave her the new toy, I used a coarse emery board to sand down the rough, raw edges on every single hole. Bottom line, this product was a disappointment . . for both of us!

Works better after adding more toys.
Sturdier construction than I expected. I filled up the interior using a package of 1" sytrofoam balls from the craft store. I regularly add a handful of large size cat kibbles, and our cat will spend hours pulling out the balls to get at the food.

Well-made, just needed to air out
This is a beautifully-made toy and the cats really do play with it. However when I unwrapped it the smell of whatever laminates and stains are used on the composite box was so strong that none of us wanted to go near it. I wiped the outside with soap and water -- part of the reason for the odor is the box is well-varnished and the water doesn't bother it -- and left it to air-dry. After three days the smell was gone and the cats began to investigate. The two balls, included, roll out the holes on the sides a little too easily but I put a couple of tinfoil balls in the box and those stay in and provide plenty of entertainment. I especially like the way all the edges of the hole are rounded, and the box is a perfect size to leave out on the floor -- not so big as to be in the way, but not so small as to get overlooked and stepped on by mistake.

Two time I replaced the items and came out the same problem dent.

Too easy
I thought that it would take my cat some time to get the ball's out but she got them out in nothing flat! I had to keep getting up to put the balls back in. I find this toy a waste of money!

Very well made and my kitten loves it. The balls provided are cute but roll out of the side holes easily. You can put anything in the wholes - squeaky mouse, fur ball, hard balls, etc -- it all works and keeps the cat busy.

It's a nice sturdy toy that comes with 2 foam balls. I add mice, springs and other balls to it. I have four adult cats and a three month old kitten. They all enjoy playing with this toy. The kitten will add toys to the holes herself! I have to say the SmartCat Peek and Play Toy Box is one of the best toys I have purchased to date. Highly recommend.

This is a superb toy - my kitten (3 months old) absolutely adores it! The build quality is outstanding, and the large holes invite curious paws to poke into them and see what can be pushed, prodded or extracted. My kitten soon worked out how to use a combination of holes to peer through and then manoeuvre his chosen item. The game comes with two brightly coloured high density foam balls, but you can add all sorts of other small toys, or even treats, as extra enticements to play. I found that small furry mice are the favourites, but the Petstages mice are also popular. We have already had many hours of fun from a high quality toy that is tremendous value for money.

I didn’t mind the small size (it’s about as big as an old encyclopedia volume), but I didn’t think this was as good quality as I was hoping for. So I was disappointed in this for 2 main reasons: 1.) It doesn’t seem to be real wood. I’m guessing it’s the more common fake wood, made of MDF. (There’s a “formaldehyde compliance” sticker that I found a bit surprising.) 2.) Also, you can’t lift the top off to wipe down the inside of the box, so if you sprinkle a little catnip or a few treats through the top holes to try to increase a cat’s interest, you can’t wipe out any resulting mess. The box idea is a good one: my cats do like to paw things out of drawers, etc. so they’ve had some fun with the balls and I’ve tried putting a few other toys in to get their attention. But I wish the box had been “prettier” and made of *real* wood. (Maybe there’s an idea for any hobbyist wood-crafter!)

It's a little bit on the pricey side for what it is, but it's sturdy and my cat loves the two rubber balls it came with. The interior surface of the box isn't varnished, so there is a slight velcro effect with fluffy toys - which may either annoy or stimulate your cat, depending on their temperament. The box will last a lifetime, unlike the balls which will disappear under furniture in a heartbeat.
