Parker THE VARIANT OPEN COMB - ADJUSTABLE Double Edge Safety Razor, Customize your Shave with a Turn of the Dial from Mild to Aggressive - 5 Blades Included (Graphite Gray)

I have tried 6 different double edged (DE) closed comb razors from well known highly rated manufacturers and all have given me a decent shave. Having said that, this adjustable open comb Parker is better by quite a margin. The adjustments go from 1 to 5 with 1 being very safe and non-aggressive. I suppose you could cut yourself with it set at 1 but you would have to be trying to or doing something stupid. Set at 5 however it is very aggressive. I tried 5 and ended up with a couple of small nicks and that was being careful. I use 3 1/2 most of the time. The only negative comment you'll hear from me about this razor is that the indicating dot is the same color as the handle which means I can't see it when I have my glasses off while shaving. C'mon man, put a white dot on the dark handle or a black dot on the metal handle.There is something about the open comb that just allows a closer shave than a closed comb and it requires less pressure when shaving as well. I mean, don't press too hard. Light pressure will get the job done and with that there is less irritation to my skin. It also leaves some shave cream behind after each pass so your next pass is better lubricated than with a closed comb razor and your face doesn't become dry as quickly when shaving. You don't have to re-lather as often. Another thing I have found is that with this razor I can get up to five decent shaves with one blade while with all the other razors I have tried I was only getting three decent shaves per blade. Perhaps this is due to using less pressure while shaving. The weight and handle length don't really concern me one way or the other, you get used to a razor after a half dozen shaves or so. Finally there is the "feel" of this razor when shaving. This razor gives more tactile feedback than any razor I have used before. You can really feel when you're holding it at just the correct angle and when you're just off a little bit, much more so than my previous razors. For the money I don't think you can find a better DE safety razor. My previous razors were not inexpensive and touted by many as being top notch precision razors but this Parker Variant Adjustable is way ahead of them in terms of a close, efficient shave. I am glad I tried some other name brands before this one because otherwise I wouldn't have anything to compare it too. If you are now using or have used a DE razor switching to this will be a step up for you.I have no affiliation with this company and purchased a Parker Variant Open Comb Adjustable with my own money from Amazon after reading reviews about it on several websites. Excelente producto. Desde el nivel número 1 cumple su cometido de cortar, algo que con otras no lo había logrado, tenía la rockwell 6c pero solo lograba cortar a partir del número 3 y era algo muy agresivo para mi piel.Si tu barba es rebelde como la mía pero a la ves tu piel es sensible y sufres de irritación, esta máquina es la adecuada para ti. No te vas a arrepentir.Si debo sacarle algún punto negativo sería el punto que marca el nivel de corte que al ser del mismo color del material de la empuñadura a veces es difícil de ver. Eso sería lo único malo por qué en cuanto a su construcción a pesar de ser de latón se siente muy sólida y fina. Su diseño de poder cambiar de nivel simplemente girando es algo que te permite acelerar el proceso de corte, además que también es mucho más fácil de enjuagar para quitar los residuos de pelo y jabón. Simplemente la pasas por el chorro de agua y la abres un poco y queda limpia, lista para seguir cortando. No necesitas estar montando y desmontando como me sucedía con las máquinas de 3 piezas.En definitiva fue la mejor elección. Si eres nuevo en el mundo del afeitado clásico y no sabes por cual decidirte te recomendaría sin temor a equivocarme esta máquina, de seguro te va gustar. Y si ya has probado otras máquinas como yo, y no te sientes muy cómodo con su eficiencia, esta Parker creo que sería una muy buena elección para probar.

So far this has been a great razor. I was scared of it because it’s an open comb razor but it has been perfect adjusted to 1 having recently graduated from a very mild razor. It’s very efficient and gives a great shave in as little as 1 pass. I literally have yet to get any razor burn or irritation while using this razor.

I get a really good shave with this razor. The blades that come with it are nice also. I almost bought the Viking adjustable, but I went with this and I am very happy.

If you're used to disposable multi-blade razors, this will take some adjustment. Make sure you buy quality blades. There are plenty out there that get good ratings.The razor is adjustable for aggressiveness. If you're a daily shaver, you can leave it screwed all the way in. I generally shave once a week, sometimes less! This is where it shines!If your beard grows fast or if you go several days between shaves, open this thing up to a more aggressive setting, (there are no numbers or markers on it. You have to wing it I'll generally back the adjustment off a full turn to a turn and a half). It'll take the hair down to a manageable length in just one or two strokes and it doesn't PULL! It's really amazing! Then you can screw it back in to get a close shave.It will take more strokes that with, say a 4-blade throw-away razor but in the end, you save a ton of money. A large pack of blades will last a year. I usually get 4-5 shaves out of my razor but I don't shave every day. If you have think whiskers that grow fast, you might only get 3 but you'll get at least 3 shaves out of a blade. Great razor!

If I've not shaved for a few days, this razor works really well. The scuppers don't clog with longer hair as other razors do.

This was my first attempt at a safety razor but the adjustment is more of a gimmick and was rough on the face. Ended up returning and getting a Hanson which I absolutely love and will never go back to a cartridge.
